We give a brief overview how to generalize a BF theory to 2BF and 3BF theories within the higher gauge theory framework. We find that, for the BF theory, there is a deformation giving the formulation of the standard Yang-Mills theory. In this work we study the generalizations of the Yang-Mills theory to the 2-form Yang-Mills theory and construct the 3-form Yang-Mills theory. Then, for the 2BF and 3BF theories, we give good deformed models, 2BFYM and 3BFYM, describing the corresponding dynamics…

Topological invariant of 4-manifolds based on a 3-group

Abstract We study a generalization of 4-dimensional BF-theory in the context of higher gauge theory. We construct a triangulation independent topological state sum Z, based on the classical 3BF

Topological higher gauge theory: From BF to BFCG theory

We study generalizations of three- and four-dimensional BF theories in the context of higher gauge theory. First, we construct topological higher gauge theories as discrete state sum models and

Higher gauge theories based on 3-groups

A bstractWe study the categorical generalizations of a BF theory to 2BF and 3BF theories, corresponding to 2-groups and 3-groups, in the framework of higher gauge theory. In particular, we construct

Feynman rules and β-function for the BF Yang-Mills theory

Four-Dimensional Yang–Mills Theory as a Deformation of Topological BF Theory

Abstract:The classical action for pure Yang–Mills gauge theory can be formulated as a deformation of the topological BF theory where, beside the two-form field B, one has to add one extra-field η

We study the problem of finding good gauges for connections in higher gauge theories. We find that, for 2-connections in strict 2-gauge theory and 3-connections in 3-gauge theory, there are local

Six-Dimensional Superconformal Field Theories from Principal 3-Bundles over Twistor Space

We construct manifestly superconformal field theories in six dimensions which contain a non-Abelian tensor multiplet. In particular, we show how principal 3-bundles over a suitable twistor space

BF Description of Higher-Dimensional Gravity Theories

It is well known that, in the first-order formalism, pure three-dimensional gravity is just the BF theory. Similarly, four-dimensional general relativity can be formulated as BF theory with an

An invitation to higher gauge theory

In this easy introduction to higher gauge theory, we describe parallel transport for particles and strings in terms of 2-connections on 2-bundles. Just as ordinary gauge theory involves a gauge

Quantum gravity and elementary particles from higher gauge theory

We give a brief overview how to couple general relativity to the Standard Model of elementary particles, within the higher gauge theory framework, suitable for the spinfoam quantization procedure. We

Topological quantum field theory

A twisted version of four dimensional supersymmetric gauge theory is formulated. The model, which refines a nonrelativistic treatment by Atiyah, appears to underlie many recent developments in
