High-precision experiments like the determination of the Lamb shift of hydrogen-like uranium require an accurate knowledge of the voltage applied to the electron cooler of the ESR. The desired accuracy is ±1V or, within the full range of the electron cooler of −300kV, a relative error of 3·10. Such an accuracy has been demonstrated with carefully designed voltage dividers [1].
