One technique for correcting scintillation is to use adaptive optics, which have good resolution (several thousand actuators) and high temporal bandwidths (several hundred Hertz). This type of correction is economically possible using liquid crystal technology. For liquid-crystal-based wavefront control to be effective in high-performance imaging systems, the device must be phase flat, highly efficient with respect to an unpolarized input, and capable of broadband modulation.
