Aims. We present methodology to derive high-precision estimates of the fundamental parameters of double-lined spectroscopic binaries. We apply the methods to the case study of the double-lined β  Cephei star β  Centauri. We also present a detailed analysis of β  Centauri's line-profile variations caused by its oscillations. Methods. High-resolution spectral time series and visual or interferometric data with a good phase distribution along the orbital period are required. We point out that a… Expand

Massive pulsating stars observed by BRITE-Constellation - I. The triple system β Centauri (Agena)
This paper aims to precisely determine the masses and detect pulsation modes in the two massive components of Beta Cen with BRITE-Constellation photometry. In addition, seismic models for theExpand
The Magnetic Early B-type Stars II: stellar atmospheric parameters in the era of Gaia
Atmospheric parameters determined via spectral modelling are unavailable for many of the known magnetic early B-type stars. We utilized high-resolution spectra together with NLTE models to measureExpand
Orbital Solution & Fundamental Parameters of sigma Scorpii

The first orbital solution for the spectroscopic pair in the multiple star system sigma Scorpii, determined from measurements with the Sydney University Stellar Interferometer (SUSI), is presented.Expand
On X-ray pulsations in beta Cephei-type variables
Beta Cephei-type variables are early B-type stars that are characterized by oscillations observable in their optical light curves. At least one Beta Cep-variable also shows periodic variability inExpand
Pulsating B-type Stars in the Open Cluster NGC 884: Frequencies, Mode Identification, and Asteroseismology

Recent progress in the seismic interpretation of field β Cep stars has resulted in improvements of the physical description in the stellar structure and evolution model computations of massive stars.Expand
Galactic kinematics from a sample of young massive stars
• Physics
• 2013
Based on published sources, we have created a kinematic database on 220 massive (> 10 M⊙) young Galactic star systems located within ≤3 kpc of the Sun. Out of them, ≈100 objects are spectroscopicExpand
Investigating potential planetary nebula/cluster pairs
Context. Fundamental parameters characterizing the end-state of intermediate-mass stars may be constrained by discovering planetary nebulae (PNe) in open clusters (OCs). Cluster membership may beExpand
Asteroseismology of beta Cephei and Be type stars
The thesis focuses on the asteroseismology of main sequence B-type stars, particularly $$\beta$$ Cephei and Be stars. Photometric observations of these stars were analysed in order to detect stellarExpand

• 2006
The Sydney University Stellar Interferometer is a long baseline optical interferometer located in northern New South Wales, Australia and a software scheduler has been developed to automate much of the observational procedure including the acquisition of a star, fringe search and acquisition, recording of fringe scans, and the taking of photometric scans. A magnetic confinement versus rotation classification of massive-star magnetospheres
Building on results from the Magnetism in Massive Stars (MiMeS) project, this paper shows how a two-parameter classification of massive-star magnetospheres in terms of the magnetic wind confinementExpand
