We develop a density matrix formalism in the length gauge to calculate the nonlinear response of intrinsic monolayer graphene at terahertz frequencies. Employing a tight-binding model, we find that the interplay of the interband and intraband dynamics leads to strong harmonic generation at moderate field amplitudes. In particular, we find that at low temperature, the reflected field of undoped suspended graphene exhibits a third harmonic amplitude that is 32% of the fundamental for an incident…

High-order nonlinear optical response of a twisted bilayer graphene

Focusing on the twist angle for the minimal commensurate structure, we perform nonperturbative calculations of electron dynamics in the twisted bilayer graphene (TBG) under intense laser fields. We

We present a formalism to calculate the nonlinear terahertz response of monolayer graphene using a two-band tight-binding model of graphene. We develop the dynamic equations for the electron density

High-harmonic generation from monolayer and bilayer graphene

High-harmonic generation (HHG) in solids is an emerging method to probe ultrafast electron dynamics in solids at attosecond timescale. In this work, we study HHG from a monolayer and bilayer

In this work, we present numerical results for the second and third order conductivities of the plain graphene and gapped graphene monolayers associated with the second and third harmonic generation,

Effect of microscopic scattering on the nonlinear transmission of terahertz fields through monolayer graphene

We consider the nonlinear terahertz response of n-doped monolayer graphene at room temperature using a microscopic theory of carrier dynamics. Our tight-binding model treats the carrier-field

The frequency dependence of third harmonic generation in undoped monolayer graphene at terahertz frequencies

We model the dependence of terahertz third harmonic generation in undoped graphene on the frequency of the incident pulse. We find a very strong increase in the response in going from 0.5 THz to 2

Dynamical calculation of third harmonic generation in a semiconductor quantum well

Nonlinear phenomena in optically excited semiconductor structures are of high interest. Here we develop a model capable of studying the dynamics of the photoexcited carriers, including Coulomb
