}Auditory thresholds were determined for infants and adults to half-octave bands of noise centered at 10,000 and 19,000 hertz. Adults were significantly more sensitive than infants at 10,000 hertz, but at 19,000 hertz, adults and infants had comparable thresholds.

The results suggest that improvements in threshold for long-duration stimuli during infancy may not be accompanied by comparable changes in threshold at short durations, and the delayed development of sensitivity to low- and high-frequency clicks appears consistent with maturational trends recently described for the auditory brainstem response.
Pure-tone sensitivity of human infants.
- Medicine, PhysicsThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America
- 1988
Pure-tone thresholds at frequencies ranging from 250 to 8000 Hz were estimated for 3, 6, and 12-month-old infants and for adults, using the Observer-based Psychoacoustic Procedure (OPP), in general agreement with results from other laboratories.
Infant auditory temporal acuity: gap detection.
- PhysicsChild development
- 1992
G gap detection thresholds are quite poor in infants, although the similarity of the effect of frequency on performance in infants and adults suggests that the mechanisms governing temporal resolution in infants operate qualitatively like those in adults.

The masking of octave-band noise by broad-spectrum noise: A comparison of infant and adult thresholds
- PhysicsPerception & psychophysics
- 1981
Localization responses to a 4,000-Hz octave-band noise in a background of broad-spectrum noise were obtained from infants, 6, 12, 18, and 24 months of age, and adults and their localization of pure tones in noise was tested.
