We study synchronization behavior in networks of coupled chaotic oscillators with heterogeneous connection degrees. Our focus is on regimes away from the complete synchronization state, when the coupling is not strong enough, when the oscillators are under the influence of noise or when the oscillators are nonidentical. We have found a hierarchical organization of the synchronization behavior with respect to the collective dynamics of the network. Oscillators with more connections (hubs) are…

Cluster synchronization in complex network of coupled chaotic circuits: An experimental study
TLDR
The study demonstrates the observability of cluster synchronization in realistic systems, and indicates the feasibility of controlling network synchronization by adjusting network topology.
Evolution of microscopic and mesoscopic synchronized patterns in complex networks.
TLDR
This work provides extensive numerical evidences that confirm the original claims, namely, that the microscopic and mesoscopic dynamics of the synchronized patterns indeed follow different routes.
Speed of complex network synchronization
TLDR
It is found that the synchronization times strongly and systematically depend on the network topology, and at fixed in-degree, stronger topological randomness induces faster synchronization, whereas at fixed path length, synchronization is slowest for intermediate randomness in the small-world regime.

TLDR
It is shown that a group of synchronized nodes may appear in scale-free networks: hubs undergo a transition to synchronization while the other nodes remain unsynchronized, suggesting that scale- free networks may have evolved to complement various levels of synchronization.
Effects of Correlation between Network Structure and Dynamics of Oscillators on Synchronization Transition in a Kuramoto Model on Scale-Free Networks
A recent study has found an explosive synchronization in a Kurammoto model on scale-free networks when the natural frequencies of oscillators are equal to their degrees. In this work, we introduce a
Network-complement transitions, symmetries, and cluster synchronization.
TLDR
It is shown that the distinct symmetry structure of the UCM networks, which by design are optimized for global synchronizability, often leads to formation of clusters of synchronous oscillators, and that such states can coexist with the state of global synchronization.
Dynamical complexity as a proxy for the network degree distribution.
TLDR
This work explores the relation between the topological relevance of a node in a complex network and the individual dynamics it exhibits and implies that it is possible to infer the degree distribution of a network only from individual dynamical measurements.
Cluster synchronization in networked nonidentical chaotic oscillators.
TLDR
This study finds that when the oscillators are configured on the network in such a way that the symmetric nodes have similar parameters (or follow the same type of dynamics), cluster synchronization can be generated.

Synchronization, diversity, and topology of networks of integrate and fire oscillators
TLDR
The analysis shows that regular lattices perform better than a disordered network and this fact can be understood by considering the variability in the number of links between two adjacent neighbors.
Synchronization on small-world networks.
TLDR
Phase synchronization is observed to emerge in the presence of even a tiny fraction P of shortcuts and to display saturated behavior for P > or similar to 0.5, indicating that the same synchronizability as the random network (P=1) can be achieved with relatively small number of shortcuts.
Network synchronization, diffusion, and the paradox of heterogeneity.
TLDR
This analysis reveals a striking relation between this process and the condition for the linear stability of the synchronized states and shows that, for a given degree distribution, the maximum synchronizability is achieved when the network of coupling is weighted and directed and the overall cost involved in the couplings is minimum.
Frequency clustering of coupled phase oscillators on small-world networks
Abstract. We analyze the phenomenon of frequency clustering in a system of coupled phase oscillators. The oscillators, which in the absence of coupling have uniformly distributed natural frequencies,

Enhancing complex-network synchronization
Heterogeneity in the degree (connectivity) distribution has been shown to suppress synchronization in networks of symmetrically coupled oscillators with uniform coupling strength (unweighted

TLDR
The spatiotemporal dynamics of a network of coupled chaotic maps, with varying degrees of randomness in coupling connections, are investigated and the regularizing effect of random connections can be understood from stability analysis of the probabilistic evolution equation for the system.
Heterogeneity in oscillator networks: are smaller worlds easier to synchronize?
TLDR
It is found that networks with a homogeneous distribution of connectivity are more synchronizable than heterogeneous ones, even though the average network distance is larger.
