In this work, we propose a model of a content-based image retrieval system by using the new idea of combining a color segmentation with relationship trees and a corresponding tree-matching method. We retain the hierarchical relationship of the regions in an image during segmentation. Using the information of the relationships and features of the regions, we can represent the desired objects in images more accurately. In retrieval, we compare not only region features but also region…
Multilevel image segmentation and object representation for content-based image retrieval
TLDR
This study proposes a scheme for multi- level image segmentation, based on a simple descriptor, called 'the closest color in the same neighborhood', which generates a stack of images without using any segmentation threshold.
Content-Based Image Retrieval Using Multiple Representations
TLDR
Two models for image representation which integrate structural features and content features in a tree or a graph structure are described and it is shown that combining those two models can further enhance the retrieval accuracy.
Watershed-Driven Region-Based Image Retrieval
TLDR
A meaningful segmentation procedure that can provide proper distributions for matching via the Earth mover’s distance as a similarity metric is presented based on a hierarchical watershed-driven algorithm that extracts automatically meaningful regions.

Unsupervised watershed-driven region-based image retrieval
TLDR
In this framework, the proposed robust feature extraction and the many-to-many region matching along with the novel region weighting for enhancing feature discrimination play a major role.

TLDR
The semantic-based image retrieval method is stressed as a better way to solve the semantic gap problem and other related techniques such as relevance feedback and performance evaluation are discussed.
A Color-Based Image Retrieval Method Using Color Distribution and Common Bitmap
TLDR
The color distribution, the mean value and the standard deviation, of an image as global information for image retrieval is used and the common bitmap is used to represent the local characteristics of the image.

TLDR
Compared with some traditional text location methods, this method has the following advantages: 1) low computational cost; 2) robust to font size; and 3) high accuracy.
Comparing images using color coherence vectors
TLDR
It is shown that CCV’s can give superior results to color histogram-based methods for comparing images that incorporates spatial information, and to whom correspondence should be addressed tograms for image retrieval.
Computing illumination-invariant descriptors of spatially filtered color image regions
TLDR
It is shown, using a set of classification experiments, that the filtered distribution invariants can significantly improve the capability of a recognition system in environments where illumination cannot be controlled.

Efficient Region Tracking With Parametric Models of Geometry and Illumination
TLDR
This work develops a computationally efficient method for handling the geometric distortions produced by changes in pose and combines geometry and illumination into an algorithm that tracks large image regions using no more computation than would be required to track with no accommodation for illumination changes.
