Theoretical and empirical evidence exists that the hierarchical Bayesian optimization algorithm (hBOA) can solve challenging hierarchical problems and anything easier. This paper applies hBOA to two important classes of real-world problems: Ising spin-glass systems and maximum satisfiability (MAXSAT).
