Recently, it was found that dandelion flower extract may fight free radicals (chemical by-products known to damage DNA. [] Key MethodCarbon tetrachloride was used as hepatotoxic agent and dandelion leaves water extract was used as a probable hepato-protective agent. Various biochemical parameters were studied to evaluate the hepatoprotective activity of dandelion leaves water extract.

Figures and Tables from this paper

Hepatoprotective Efficacy of Chicory alone or combined with Dandelion leaves against induced Liver Damage
TLDR
The results of the serum biomarkers of chicory and its mixture with dandelion treated rats showed significant reduction indicating the effect of the plants leaves extract in restoring the normal functional ability of the hepatocytes.

Hepatoprotective effect of Taraxacum officinale leaf extract on sodium dichromate‐induced liver injury in rats
TLDR
It is suggested that a potential therapeutic use of this plant as an alternative medicine for patients with acute liver diseases is suggested and that TOE was effective in the protection against sodium dichromate‐induced hepatotoxicity and genotoxicity.
Hepatoprotective Effect of Yellow and Red Carrots ( Daucus carota L . ) Against Carbon Tetrachloride-Induced Hepatotoxicity
TLDR
It is demonstrated that both red and yellow carrot extracts could afford significant protection against hepatocellular injury with more potential hepatoprotection in case of red carrot administration.
DANDELION (TARAXACUM OFFICINALE) LEAVES PROTECTS AGAINST CHROMIUM-INDUCED NEPHROTOXICITY AND GENOTOXICITY IN RATS
TLDR
Pre-treatment with TOE was found to provide significant protection against sodium dichromate-induced nephrotoxicity by inhibiting lipid peroxidation, preserving normal antioxidant activities and protecting the renal tissues from lesions and DNA damage.
Dandelion prevents liver fibrosis, inflammatory response, and oxidative stress in rats
TLDR
The results suggest that dandelion prevents the progression of hepatic fibrosis induced by CCL4 and could be attributed to its ability to scavenge free radicals and to attenuate inflammatory cells activations.
Hepatoprotective properties of Dandelion: recent update.
TLDR
Dandelion has been tested against various drugs and chemical induced chronic liver diseases in experimental animals and came out with promising results, and in vitro studies confirm the hepatoprotective, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of dandelion.
Efficacy of hepatoprotector jamu formula (combination of Curcuma longa, Curcuma xanthorrhiza, and Taraxacum officinale) compared to Fructus schizandrae extract in mild liver injury: a randomized controlled trial
TLDR
The efficacy of hepatoprotector jamu formula was comparable to Fructus schizandrae extract in improving mild liver injury and this study was a RCT using parallel open label design.
Beneficial uses of dandelion herb (Taraxacum officinale) in poultry nutrition
TLDR
Dandelion treats indigestion and hepatitis B infection as well as enhances metabolise androgenic hormones and has many properties like immunomodulator, digestive stimulant, prebiotic, insulin stimulant and anti-inflammation.
Amelioration of CCl4-Induced Hepatotoxicity in Rabbits by Lepidium sativum Seeds
TLDR
Histopathological examination of LSS protected rabbits showed improvement of the histoarchitectural changes of the liver induced by CCl4 to the normal aspect, showing regenerating hepatocytes with no steatosis, discrete chronic venous congestion, and discrete inflammatory infiltrate.

Hepatoprotective Activity of Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) Water Extract against D-Galactosamine-Induced Hepatitis in Rats
TLDR
Dandelion could be used as a potential therapeutic material for treating chemically induced acute hepatitis and Hepatic antioxidative enzyme activities, such as catalase, GSH peroxidase,GSH reductase, and Mn-superoxide dismutase were slightly or significantly elevated by the treatment of DWE.
Amelioration of oxidative stress by dandelion extract through CYP2E1 suppression against acute liver injury induced by carbon tetrachloride in sprague‐dawley rats
TLDR
Results indicate that DLWE has a protective effect against CCl4‐induced hepatic damage with at least part of its effect being attributable to the attenuation of oxidative stress and inflammatory processes resulting from cytochrome P450 activation by CCl 4.
Du-Zhong (Eucommia ulmoides Oliv.) leaves inhibits CCl4-induced hepatic damage in rats.
Antihepatotoxic biochemical effects of kolaviron, a biflavonoid of Garcinia kola seeds
TLDR
The antihepatotoxic action of kolaviron was clearly demonstrated in the model of hepatitis employed in this study, as well as causing significant increases in activities of the serum enzymes assessed.

TLDR
Both WF and EAF of DFE exhibited free radical scavenging activities in a stable 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical model and reduced the breakage of supercoiled DNA strand induced by both non-site-specific and site-specific hydroxyl radical.

Hypolipidemic and Antioxidant Effects of Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) Root and Leaf on Cholesterol-Fed Rabbits
TLDR
Results show that treatment with dandelion root and leaf positively changed plasma antioxidant enzyme activities and lipid profiles in cholesterol-fed rabbits, and thus may have potential hypolipidemic and antioxidant effects.
