Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major human pathogen causing chronic liver disease, which leads to cirrhosis of liver and hepatocellular carcinoma. The HCV core protein, a viral nucleocapsid, has been shown to affect various intracellular events, including cell proliferation and apoptosis.
