}BACKGROUND
Studies have shown that HIV-HBV co-infected patients have an increased risk of liver-related morbidity and mortality compared to their HIV-mono-infected counterparts. Furthermore, it has been reported that HIV-HBV co-infected patients have a significantly high incidence of drug-induced hepatotoxicity following commencement of HAART than HIV-mono-infected patients.
OBJECTIVES
To compare the levels of aspartate amino transferase (AST), alanine amino transferase (ALT) and alkaline…

PREVALENCE OF CHOLELITHIASIS IN IRAQI PATIENTS WITH HEPATITIS B INFECTION
- Medicine
- 2018
Cholelithiasis tends to occur more frequently in patients with hepatitis B virus infection and there is a strong association between HBV infection and gallstones, soHBV infection is definitely a risk factor for gallstone disease.

The HIV prevalence in these informal settlements suggests a higher rate than what is observed nationally and clearly indicates the need for HIV-1 control programmes and hepatitis B virus vaccination to be promoted through public awareness as preventive strategy.

The risk of untreated HIV outweighs the risk of anemia and hepatotoxicity mediated by ART in African settings, and that of anemic declines in the first 12 months of ART.
Sero-Epidemiological Analysis of Hepatitis B Virus Infection among Apparently Healthy Young Adults in Omuaran-Community

The results showed some measure of prevalence among the study population, and it therefore becomes pertinent that the community be enlightened on the possible risk of infection by the virus.
Effect of first and second line fixed-dose combination (FDC) antiretroviral drugs on hepatic enzymes, serum protein and liver histology of albino Wistar rats
- Medicine, Biology
- 2019
Fixed-dose combination antiretroviral drugs showed toxic effect on hepatic function parameters in animal model treated groups and revealed widened sinusoids, singly microvesicularsteatosis, glycogenated nucleus and congested central vein in the treated groups, but no pathological lesion was observed in control group.

HBV and HIV co-infection is recognised in this region, which is endemic for both viral infections, and this will influence the choice of highly active anti-retroviral therapy (HAART) in favour of Lamivudine containing combinations to cover the HBV infection.
