A 50 year old male was referred to our hospital with acute iver failure, following a short febrile illness with leucopenia, hrombocytopenia and acute renal failure. He was diagnosed with emophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) with no obvious triger. Post-mortem liver biopsy, along with other laboratory tests, evealed an unexpected pathogen as the trigger for the hypernflammatory status – HSV-1.
