This study presents results from several expeditions in 1985, 1991-1995 and 2003 to the Medium Parana River in the section that begins below the Itaipu Dam and ends at the trinational border of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, in the lotic and lentic zones of the reservoir of the Hydroelectric Power Station of “Itaipu Binacional” (localities Foz do Iguacu, Santa Helena and Guaira). Ninety-eight species of freshwater fishes belonging to 22 families were examined for helminths. A host-parasite… Expand

Metazoan Parasites of Geophagus proximus , a Cichlidae Fish from the Eastern Amazon (Brazil)
TLDR
The present study represents the first record of S. geophagi parasitizing G. proximus, increasing the geographic distribution of these parasite species to the Tapajos River basin. Expand
Parasite infracommunities of Leporinus friderici : A comparison of three tributaries of the Jurumirim Reservoir in southeastern Brazil.
TLDR
The results suggest that fish parasite assemblages can provide suitable data for evaluating biotic homogenization caused by dams, and highlight that dams promote and facilitate the dispersal of organisms between localities, and therefore the spatial homogenizations of parasite communities. Expand
The impact of a dam on the helminth fauna and health of a neotropical fish species Salminus brasiliensis (Cuvier 1816) from the upper Paraná River, Brazil
TLDR
The results show that the anthropic influence on natural systems is interfering with the welfare and health of S. brasiliensis, reflected by its fauna of helminth parasites. Expand
Metazoan parasite fauna of two peacock-bass cichlid fish in Brazil
TLDR
The present paper collaborates with the study of conservation biology by adding new records of parasite species in C. kelberi and C. piquiti, and new biogeography records of parasites in six different aquatic ecosystems in Brazil. Expand
Endoparasites of Gymnotus sp. (Gymnotiformes: Gymnotidae) from commercial baitfish farming in Pantanal basin, central Brazil
This study evaluated the endohelminthic parasites of native baitfish Gymnotus spp. collected from different baitfish farming in the Pantanal basin, State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Central Brazil. FromExpand
Endohelminths in Cichla piquiti (Perciformes, Cichlidae) from the Paraná River, São Paulo State, Brazil.
TLDR
Cichla piquiti represents a new host for four parasite species, contributing to the knowledge of the host-parasite relationship and the geographical distribution of these helminths. Expand
Parasites in Loricariidae from Brazil: checklist and new records for fish from the Brazilian Amazon
TLDR
Loricariidae species from Brazil are parasitized by species of Protozoa, Monogenea, Nematoda, Digenea, Acantocephala, Cestoda, Crustacea and Hirudinea, but monogeneans, digeneans and nematodes were the predominant taxa. Expand
Fish parasite diversity in the Amambai river, State Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil
TLDR
This is the first work to gather information about the parasite fauna of fish from Amambai River in the Mato Grosso do Sul State, and provides records that contribute new reports of the occurrence of parasites in new locations. Expand
Dendrorchis pampae sp. n. (Digenea: Gorgoderidae) from Cynopoecilus melanotaenia (Cyprinodontiformes: Cynolebiidae) a killifish from southern Brazil, with an emended diagnosis of Dendrorchis
TLDR
The main characteristics of D. pampae are: genital pore in the intestinal bifurcation region elongate and lobed vitellaria uterine loops limited to the acetabular region and to the rear end of the body; and wide intestinal caeca. Expand
Parasite community of Cichla kelberi (Perciformes, Cichlidae) in the Três Marias Reservoir, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
TLDR
