OBJECTIVE To assess the effects of abruptly intensified physical training on cardiovascular control. DESIGN Retrospective longitudinal study. SETTING Research laboratory. PARTICIPANTS Ten healthy athletes (5 men and 5 women) from track and field as well as triathlon.
