Tolfenamic acid (TA), a potent inhibitor of prostaglandin (PG) biosynthesis and action, was tested prophylactically against hangover symptoms in 30 healthy volunteers in a double–blind cross-over study. One capsule of TA (200 mg) or placebo was taken before starting to drink alcohol and another before going to bed. The hangover symptoms were evaluated in the morning. TA was found significantly better than placebo in the subjective evaluation of drug efficacy (p<0.001) and in reducing the…
Propranolol for the treatment of the alcoholic hangover.
TLDR
It is concluded that propranolol does not prevent the symptoms of hangover, and beta blockade was achieved but there was no clinically important reduction in symptoms ofhangover.
Effect of Opuntia ficus indica on symptoms of the alcohol hangover.
TLDR
An extract of the OFI plant has a moderate effect on reducing hangover symptoms, apparently by inhibiting the production of inflammatory mediators.
Hangover headache: accompanying symptoms. Vågå study of headache epidemiology
TLDR
Not only does hangover headache seem to be more frequent in males—as previously demonstrated; it also seems to bemore severe in males.
Prostaglandins in alcohol intolerance and hangover.
The effects of alcohol on the formation of prostaglandins (PGs) and the blockade of some actions of alcohol by PG-inhibitors suggest that PGs may be involved in the action of ethyl alcohol.
A Nationwide Randomised, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Physicians' Trial of Loxoprofen for the Treatment of Fatigue, Headache, and Nausea after Hangovers.
TLDR
Loxoprofen sodium was effective for relieving headaches after hangovers but did not alleviate general fatigue or nausea.
The Effects of SJP-001 on Alcohol Hangover Severity: A Pilot Study
TLDR
The effects of SJP-001 should be further examined in a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with a larger sample size and controlled administration of sufficient amounts of alcohol to provoke a more substantial alcohol hangover.
Relevance of Prostaglandins in Migraine
TLDR
Prostaglandins (PG), particularly PGE, may be linked to the pathophysiology of migraine in several important ways and may fill in gaps in the understanding of how the overt pain of attacks is produced.
Effects of alcohol hangover on cytokine production in healthy subjects.
TLDR
The suggestion that the dysregulated cytokine pathway (IL-10, IL-12, and IFN-gamma) is associated with the symptoms of hangovers is supported.
Hangover headache: various manifestations and proposal for criteria. Vågå study of headache epidemiology
TLDR
Hangover headache has been focused upon in connection with the Vågå study of headache epidemiology, with 714 cases among 1122 dalesmen (64%), and it was more frequently located in the anterior than occipital area.
Effects of Rapid Recovery on Alcohol Hangover Severity: A Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled, Randomized, Balanced Crossover Trial
TLDR
The data suggest that Rapid Recovery has no significant effect on alcohol hangover nor on associated biomarkers.

Acute effect of antipyretic analgesics, alone or in combination with alcohol, on human psychomotor skills related to driving.
TLDR
An impairment of psychomotor skills related to driving by indomethacin and phenylbutazone should be considered when prescribing these drugs to active out-patients.
TOLFENAMIC ACID IS AS EFFECTIVE AS ERGOTAMINE DURING MIGRAINE ATTACKS
TLDR
The effectiveness of tolfenamic acid in acute migraine attacks accords with the postulated role of prostaglandins in migraine.
Toxicology of the prostaglandins.
TLDR
In humans, PGE1 was administered intravenously and it was found that adverse effects were related to rate of administration rather than to total dose, factors which might suggest a correlation with central nervous system effects (as found in animal studies).
BLOCKADE OF CHLORPROPAMIDE ALCOHOL FLUSH BY ASPIRIN
TLDR
The blocking effects of aspirin, chlorpheniramine, and cimetidine were tested against the flush provoked by alcohol in twenty-four chlorpropamide-treated patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, and five patients studied in detail showed suppression of chlorPropamide/alcohol flush by aspirin.
Metabolic and endocrine pathology during hangover.
TLDR
It is concluded that the metabolic and endocrine factors studied by us probably do not have any major role in the pathogenesis of hangover, however, the observed changes in the secretion of PRL may reflect the primary neural events involved in the induction ofhangover.
Scopolamine alone or combined with ephedrine in seasickness: a double-blind, placebo-controlled study.
TLDR
Scopolamine alone or in combination with ephedrine proved useful in the prevention of seasickness in young healthy male volunteers and the number of side-effects of the drugs decreased on the third day of the study.
Comparative effects of tolfenamic acid and acetylsalicylic acid on human gastric mucosa. A double-blind crossover trial employing gastroscopy, extern gastrocamera and multiple biopsies.
TLDR
It is concluded that tolfenamic acid, in the relatively high dosage employed in this trial, is free from any irritant effect on the gastric mucosa.
Prostaglandin synthetase inhibitors antagonize the depressant effects of ethanol
TLDR
Prostaglandin synthetase inhibitors were administered to adult HS/Ibg male mice prior to intraperitoneal injection of a hypnotic dose of either ethanol, propanol, or t-butanol, suggesting that prostaglandins may be specifically involved in the biochemical mechanism of alcohol depression.
Prostacyclin and thromboxane in diabetes.
TLDR
Plasma concentrations of 6-keto-PGF1 alpha and thromboxane B2 were not related to concentrations of glucose, haemoglobin A1, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, cholesterol, triglycerides, magnesium, or creatinine, and suggest that in diabetics with microangiopathy a balance between prostacyclin and thROMboxane A2 is shifted to dominance by prostacyClin.
Inhibition of prostaglandin biosynthesis by tolfenamic acid in vitro.
The effect of tolfenamic acid on prostaglandin biosynthesis was investigated by using rabbit kidney medulla microsomal fraction, and the results compared with those obtained with indomethacin and
