BACKGROUND The current prevalence of healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) is a major public health concern. [] Key MethodSterile' scrubbed staff members were excluded. The following hand-hygiene opportunities were monitored: (i) entering or leaving the OT; and (ii) before patient contact. Furthermore, the frequency of 'potential contamination' was recorded (touching OT implements after contact with patient/patient body fluids without the subsequent application of hand hygiene).
Compliance of Hand Hygiene in the Operation Theatre in a Tertiary Care Hospital: An Observational Study
TLDR
Strict hand hygiene protocols in place and administrative implementation of the same can increase the overall compliance and a monitoring team for the same would be beneficial for strict adherence of hand hygiene protocol.
Hand hygiene is as simple as the ABCs—always, be, careful, caring and compliant
TLDR
An observational study was conducted on the hand hygiene compliance of ‘non-scrubbed’ HCPs working in the OR and PACU of the King Fahad Hospital, King Abdulaziz Medical City, a quaternary health-care facility in Saudi Arabia.
Hand hygiene compliance monitoring in anaesthetics: Feasibility and validity
TLDR
It is concluded that hand hygiene compliance monitoring by direct observation was invalid and unreliable in this specialty and interventions which reduce environmental and patient contamination, such as cleaning the patient and environment, could ensure anaesthetists encounter fewer micro-organisms inThis specialty.

Adherence to preoperative hand hygiene and sterile gowning technique among consultant surgeons, surgical residents, and nurses: a pilot study at an academic medical center in Indonesia
TLDR
Comparing adherence to preoperative sterile gowning and hand hygiene technique among consultant surgeons, surgical residents, and nurses using aseptic instrument tests of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) Faculty of Medicine Gadjah Mada showed good results.
HAND-HYGIENE PRACTICES IN THE OPERATING THEATRE IN A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL IN A DEVELOPING COUNTRY: AN OBSERVATIONAL STUDY
TLDR
Assessment of the standard of applied infection control practices in terms of hand hygiene application in the operating rooms in a tertiary care hospital in a developing world country to assess the the incidence of unscrubbed personnel coming in contact with the patient as well as the practice ofHand hygiene in the Operating room.
Personal hand gel for improved hand hygiene compliance on the regional anesthesia team
TLDR
Improvement in overall compliance from 34 to 63 % was significant, and compliance with hand hygiene policy improves when individual sanitation gel dispensing devices are worn on the person.
Microbial contamination of the hands of healthcare providers in the operating theatre of a central hospital
TLDR
It was concerning that 100% of the hands of HCPs who were about to commence with the surgical list had microbial growth, and microorganisms cultured on hands are a source of cross-transmission which may result in HAIs.
Compliance to Intraoperative Basic Hygiene and Patient Safety Culture in Mozambique
TLDR
This study shows that compliance to basic hygiene during the intraoperative phase in theatre was insufficient and that working with the attitudes of the staff concerning patient safety could be one way of improving hygiene compliance which would be expected to reduce the number of surgical site infections.

Hand-cleansing during Postanesthesia Care
TLDR
Failure to cleanse hands during patient care is common in the postanesthesia care unit and is associated with identifiable factors, which argues that hand-cleansing should not be viewed as a problematic individual behavior only, and system change must be considered in prevention strategies.
