Hairy black resonators and the AdS$_4$ superradiant instability

  title={Hairy black resonators and the AdS\$\_4\$ superradiant instability},
  author={Paul M. Chesler},
The superradiant instability of Kerr-AdS black holes is studied by numerically solving the full 3+1 dimensional Einstein equations. We find that the superradiant instability results in a two stage process with distinct initial and secondary instabilities. At the end of the secondary instability the geometry oscillates at several distinct fundamental frequencies — a multi-oscillating black hole. The multi-oscillating black hole is remarkably close to a black resonator, albeit with a bit of… Expand

Black holes with a single Killing vector field: black resonators
A bstractWe numerically construct asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AdS) black holes in four dimensions that contain only a single Killing vector field. These solutions, which we coin black resonators,Expand

Superradiant Instability and Backreaction of Massive Vector Fields around Kerr Black Holes.
We study the growth and saturation of the superradiant instability of a complex, massive vector (Proca) field as it extracts energy and angular momentum from a spinning black hole, using numericalExpand
Explosion and Final State of an Unstable Reissner-Nordström Black Hole.
It is shown that (i) the process stops before all the charge is extracted from the BH, and (ii) the system settles down into a hairy BH: a charged horizon in equilibrium with a scalar field condensate, whose phase is oscillating at the final) critical frequency. Expand

It is found that the superradiant instability of a massive boson around a spinning black hole can efficiently convert a significant fraction of a black hole's rotational energy into gravitational radiation. Expand
Gravitational wave signatures of ultralight vector bosons from black hole superradiance
In the presence of an ultralight bosonic field, spinning black holes are unstable to superradiance. The rotational energy of the black hole is converted into a nonaxisymmetric, oscillating bosonExpand
