Keratins are fibrous proteins. Hair keratins constitute hard structures such as the hair and nails, and cytokeratins have been used as markers of breast carcinoma. However, the expression and function of full-size hair keratin genes have not been previously demonstrated in breast cancer. We investigated the expression of the hair keratin, KRT81, and its function in human breast cancer and normal mammary epithelial cells. Western blotting showed full size 55-kDa KRT81 expression in the human…
High expression of keratin 6C is associated with poor prognosis and accelerates cancer proliferation and migration by modulating epithelial–mesenchymal transition in lung adenocarcinoma
TLDR
Depletion of KRT6C suppressed A549 cell proliferation, migration and invasion, which might be achieved by regulating EMT, and KRT 6C is identified as a potential therapeutic target for LUAD.
KRT81 Knockdown Inhibits Malignant Progression of Melanoma Through Regulating Interleukin-8.
TLDR
Findings indicate that downregulation of KRT81 could inhibit progression of melanoma by regulating IL-8 and represents a potential therapeutic target for melanoma therapy.
Combined tumor epithelial and stromal histopathology with keratin 81 expression predicts prognosis for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.
TLDR
Combined tumor epithelial and stromal histopathology with keratin 81 expression is suggested to be useful to predict prognosis of PDAC.
Gene Expression Difference Between Primary and Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma Using Patient-Derived Xenografts
TLDR
The results prove that the PDX is a great research model for metastatic tumors since it preserved the essences for tumor metastasis and justify the applications of PDX in metastatic tumor studies.
In-silico analysis of differentially expressed genes and their regulating microRNAs involved in lymph node metastasis in invasive breast carcinoma
TLDR
In-silico survival and expression analyses revealed six candidate genes and 83 miRNAs, which may be potential diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets in BC patients and miR-155-5p shows promise as it targeted five important hub genes related to lymph-node metastasis.
In-Silico Analysis of Differentially Expressed Genes and Their Regulating microRNA Involved in Lymph Node Metastasis in Invasive Breast Carcinoma
TLDR
Six candidate hub genes are found to be significantly associated with nodal metastasis and overall survival, and 83 MicroRNA (miRNAs) which may be potential diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets in BC patients are revealed.
Comprehensive Transcriptome and Pathway Analyses Revealed Central Role for Fascin in Promoting Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Progression
TLDR
Finn ShRNA was used to generate stable fascin knockdown (FSCN1KD) in the MDA-MB-231 TNBC cell line and comprehensive mRNA and miRNA transcriptome analysis confirmed fascin’s role in promoting TNBC progression, and identified a novel opportunity for therapeutic interventions via targeting those F SCN1-related transcripts.
Metalloproteomics analysis in human mammary cell lines treated with inorganic mercury.
Transcriptome Analysis of the Inhibitory Effect of Sennoside A on the Metastasis of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cells
TLDR
This study treated two HCC cell lines with SA and found that SA selectively inhibited the growth of HCC cells by proliferation assay and confirmed that the downregulation of KRT7 and KRT81 could inhibit HCC metastasis.
A Polymorphism at the microRNA Binding Site in the 3' Untranslated Region of KRT81 Is Associated with Breast Cancer.
TLDR
The data demonstrated that the K RT81 expressional change modulated by rs3660 miR-SNP could modify the carcinogenesis of BC, thereby KRT81 would be a new target for BC treatment.

Expression of a truncated form of hHb1 hair keratin in human breast carcinomas.
TLDR
It is established that breast carcinomas ectopically express a hHb1 5'-truncated mRNA, and that this transcript is restricted to malignant epithelial cells.
Transcription Regulation and Protein Subcellular Localization of the Truncated Basic Hair Keratin hHb1-ΔN in Human Breast Cancer Cells*
TLDR
It is found that hHb1-ΔN transcription is initiated at an unusual cryptic promoter within the fourth intron of the hHB1 gene and is dependent on two proximal Sp1 binding sites for its baseline activity and increased in response to DNA demethylation by the 5-aza-2′-deoxycytidine drug.
Lipocalin 2 promotes breast cancer progression
TLDR
In vitro, in vivo, and human studies demonstrate that Lcn2 promotes breast cancer progression by inducing EMT through the ERα/Slug axis and may be a useful biomarker of breast cancer.
Keratins of the human hair follicle.
Upregulation of the truncated basic hair keratin 1(hHb1‐ΔN) in carcinoma cells by Epstein‐Barr virus (EBV)
TLDR
It is discovered that EBV infection upregulated a truncated variant of human basic hair keratin 1 (hHb1‐ΔN), a gene that had previously been identified in metastatic breast carcinoma, which may establish a link between EBV and the low differentiated or anaplastic status of the carcinomas that carry the virus.
Keratin-17 Promotes p27KIP1 Nuclear Export and Degradation and Offers Potential Prognostic Utility.
TLDR
It is shown that high expression of keratin-17 (K17) predicts poor outcome in patients with cervical cancer, at early or late stages of disease, surpassing in accuracy either tumor staging or loss of p27(KIP1) as a negative prognostic marker in this setting.
Gene expression profiling of breast cell lines identifies potential new basal markers
TLDR
The BCL basal/luminal signature correctly re-classified the published series of tumour samples that originally served to identify the molecular subtypes, suggesting that the identified markers should be useful for tumour classification and might represent promising targets for disease management.
The Catalog of Human Hair Keratins
TLDR
Comparing analysis of type II with the previously published type I hair keratin expression profiles suggested specific, but more likely, random keratin-pairing principles during trichocyte differentiation, and a two-dimensional compilation of the presently known human keratins is presented.
The Hairless Phenotype of the Hirosaki Hairless Rat Is Due to the Deletion of an 80-kb Genomic DNA Containing Five Basic Keratin Genes*
TLDR
The Hirosaki hairless rat (HHR) is a mutant strain spontaneously derived from Sprague-Dawley rats, and the locus of the responsible gene was examined by linkage analysis and mapped on chromosome 7q36, showing the importance of hair keratin genes in hair growth.
Upregulation of neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin by ErbB2 through nuclear factor-kappaB activation.
TLDR
It is shown that ErbB2 overexpression leads to NGAL upregulation, which is dependent on nuclear factor-kappaB (NF- kappaB) activity, and these pathways may serve as potential therapeutic targets for cancer-related anemia.
