Haemorrhagic necrosis of the small intestine has been described in association with numerous clinical conditions (Berger and Byrne, 1961; Marston, 1962; McGovern and Goulton, 1965). It has also been recorded following open-heart surgery for correction of aortic incompetence (Robertson and Dodds, 1964).
