Summary. In this study, a coupled hygro-mechanical (H-M) model in 2D, for the analysis of drying shrinkage of concrete at the meso-level is presented. Larger aggregates are discretized explicitly, embedded in a matrix representing mortar plus smaller aggregates. Fracture-based “zero-thickness” interface elements are inserted a priori in between standard continuum elements, in order to simulate potential crack paths.
