Human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are DNA tumour viruses that induce hyperproliferative lesions in cutaneous and mucosal epithelia. The relationship between HPV and non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) is important clinically since NMSC is the most common form of malignancy among fair-skinned populations.
