The proinflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) inhibits normal keratinocytes proliferation. However, many human papillomavirus (HPV)-immortalized or transformed cell lines are resistant to TNF-alpha antiproliferative effect.
