The introduction of thrombolytic therapy is potentially a major advance in the management of patients with acute stroke. Important applications of Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) may be the early identification of the site (and possibly severity) of cerebral ischemia, and the measurement of reperfusion after thrombolytic therapy.
