BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Due to their behavioral conditions and vulnerability, injection drug users (IDUs) are prone to multiple simultaneous or sequential infections with distinct HIV-1 subtypes and variants, making them a key population for molecular epidemiology surveillance.
