Context. Blue stragglers are easy to identify in globular clusters, but are much harder to identify in the field. Here we present the serendipitous discovery of one field blue straggler, HIP 10725, that closely matches the Sun in mass and age, but with a metallicity slightly lower than solar. Aims. We characterise the solar twin/analogue HIP 10725 to assess whether this star is a blue straggler. Methods. We employed spectra with high resolution (R ∼ 10 5 ) and high signal-to-noise ratio (330… Expand

The Solar Twin Planet Search: IV. The Sun as a typical rotator and evidence for a new rotational braking law for Sun-like stars
It is still unclear how common the Sun is when compared to other similar stars in regards to some of its physical properties, such as rotation. Considering that gyrochronology relations are widelyExpand
The Li–age correlation: the Sun is unusually Li deficient for its age
The present work aims to examine in detail the depletion of lithium in solar twins to better constrain stellar evolution models and investigate its possible connection with exoplanets. We employExpand
The Solar Twin Planet Search: The age - chromospheric activity relation
It is well known that the magnetic activity of solar type stars decreases with age, but it is widely debated in the literature whether there is a smooth decline or if there is an early sharp dropExpand
Chemical evolution of the Galactic bulge as traced by microlensed dwarf and subgiant stars
Lithium abundances are presented for 91 dwarf and subgiant stars in the Galactic bulge. The analysis is based on line synthesis of the 7Li line at 6707 A in high-resolution spectra obtained duringExpand
Is beryllium ultra-depletion in solar-type stars linked to the presence of a white dwarf companion?
Abundance studies of solar-type stars revealed a small fraction of objects with extreme depletion of beryllium. We investigate the possible link between the beryllium depletion and the presence ofExpand
Improved rotation-activity-age relations in Sun-like stars
Abstract The evolution of rotational velocity and magnetic activity with age follows approximately a t −1/2 relation, the famous Skumanich law. Using a large sample of about 80 solar twins withExpand
Signatures of rocky planet engulfment in HAT-P-4. Implications for chemical tagging studies
Aims. To explore the possible chemical signature of planet formation in the binary system HAT-P-4, by studying abundance vs condensation temperature Tc trends. The star HAT-P-4 hosts a planetExpand
Revisiting the science case for near-UV spectroscopy with the VLT
In the era of Extremely Large Telescopes, the current generation of 8-10m facilities are likely to remain competitive at far-blue visible wavelengths for the foreseeable future. High-efficiencyExpand
Investigating three Sirius-like systems with SPHERE
Sirius-like systems are wide binaries composed of a white dwarf (WD) and a companion of a spectral type earlier than M0. The WD progenitor evolves in isolation, but its wind during the AGB phaseExpand

The remarkable solar twin HIP 56948: a prime target in the quest for other Earths
Context. The Sun shows abundance anomalies relative to most solar twins. If the abundance peculiarities are due to the formation of inner rocky planets, that would mean that only a small fraction ofExpand
HIP 114328: a new refractory-poor and Li-poor solar twin
Context. The standard solar model fails to predict the very low lithium abundance in the Sun, which is much lower than the proto-solar nebula (as measured in meteorites). This Li problem has beenExpand
High precision abundances of the old solar twin HIP 102152: Insights on Li depletion from the oldest sun
We present the first detailed chemical abundance analysis of the old 8.2?Gyr solar twin, HIP 102152. We derive differential abundances of 21 elements relative to the Sun with precisions as high asExpand
The Solar Twin Planet Search. I. Fundamental parameters of the stellar sample
Context. We are carrying out a search for planets around a sample of solar twin stars using the HARPS spectrograph. The goal of this project is to exploit the advantage offered by solar twins toExpand
We report radial velocity studies of five candidate metal-poor field blue stragglers, all known to be deficient in lithium. Four of the five stars are single-lined spectroscopic binaries, withExpand
We study with unprecedented detail the chemical composition and stellar parameters of the solar twin 18 Sco in a strictly differential sense relative to the Sun. Our study is mainly based onExpand
Accurate abundance patterns of solar twins and analogs. Does the anomalous solar chemical compositio
We derive the abundance of 19 elements in a sample of 64 stars with fundamental parameters very similar to solar, which minimizes the impact of systematic errors in our spectroscopic 1D-LTEExpand
Field population II blue stragglers
Photometry and high-resolution spectra are presented and discussed of metal-poor stars hotter than the turn-off of globular clusters. Very few nonvariable candidates for blue stragglers can beExpand
Accretion of chemically fractionated material on a wide binary with a blue straggler
The components of the wide binary HIP64030=HD 113984 show a large (about 0.25 dex) iron content difference (Desidera et al.~2006 A&A 454, 581). The positions of the components on the color magnitudeExpand
Solar twins in M 67: evolutionary status and lithium abundance
Aims. We determine the age and mass of the three best solar twin candidates in open cluster M 67 through lithium evolutionary models. Methods. We computed a grid of evolutionary models withExpand
