This work demonstrates and characterizes a novel cross-polarization method of filtering the leakage excitation light from the emission signal of a fluorescent dye. The cross-polarization scheme was incorporated in an integrated on-chip fluorescence detection system, using a metalhalide lamp as excitation source and an organic photodiode as a detector.
