In the light of recent interest in re-designing the Internet, we introduce HAIR, a routing architecture that tackles the problem of routing table growth, restricts the visibility of routing updates, and inherently supports traffic engineering, mobility, and multipath. HAIR separates locators from identifiers. The routing and mapping system rely on a hierarchical scheme that leverages the structure of today's Internet.
