In this Letter we present the first 3D spectroscopic study of Hα emission in a z ∼ 1 field galaxy with an integral field unit. Using the Cambridge Infrared Panoramic Survey Spectrograph (CIRPASS) on Gemini-South, we map the spatial and velocity distribution of Hα emission in the z = 0.819 galaxy CFRS 22.1313. We detect two Hα emitting regions with a velocity separation of 220 ± 10 km s −1 . Combining the 2D map of Hα emission with Hubble Space Telescope F814W imaging, we determine a lower limit…

2D kinematics and physical properties of z ∼ 3 star-forming galaxies

We combined two-dimensional kinematic and morphology information on the Hα emission, obtained using near-infrared integral-field spectroscopy, with broad-band photometry to investigate the dynamical

The KMOS Redshift One Spectroscopic Survey (KROSS):dynamical properties, gas and dark matter fractions of typical z~1 star-forming galaxies

The KMOS Redshift One Spectroscopic Survey (KROSS) is an ESO guaranteed time survey of 795 typical star-forming galaxies in the redshift range z=0.8-1.0 with the KMOS instrument on the VLT. In this

The Tully-Fisher relation and its evolution with redshift in cosmological simulations of disc galaxy formation

We present predictions on the evolution of the Tully–Fisher (TF) relation with redshift, based on cosmological N-body/hydrodynamical simulations of disc galaxy formation and evolution. The

The KMOS Redshift One Spectroscopic Survey (KROSS):the Tully-Fisher Relation at z ~ 1

We present the stellar mass ($M_{*}$), and K-corrected $K$-band absolute magnitude ($M_{K}$) Tully-Fisher relations (TFRs) for sub-samples of the 584 galaxies spatially resolved in H$\alpha$ emission

Astrophysics in 2005

We bring you, as usual, the Sun and Moon and stars, plus some galaxies and a new section on astrobiology. Some highlights are short (the newly identified class of gamma‐ray bursts, and the Deep

The Tully–Fisher relation of galaxies at z∼ 0.85 in the DEEP2 survey

Local and intermediate redshift (z∼ 0.5) galaxy samples obey well correlated relations between the stellar population luminosity and maximal galaxy rotation that define the Tully–Fisher (TF)

Optical Rotation Curves of Distant Field Galaxies: Sub-L⋆ Systems

Moderate-resolution spectroscopic observations from the Keck 10 m telescope are used to derive internal kinematics for eight faint disk galaxies in the fields flanking the Hubble Deep Field. The

Optical Rotation Curves of Distant Field Galaxies: Keck Results at Redshifts to z ~ 1

Spatially resolved velocity profiles are presented for nine faint field galaxies in the redshift range 0.1 ≲ z ≲ 1, based on moderate-resolution spectroscopy obtained with the Keck 10 m telescope.

Measurement of the star formation rate from Hα in field galaxies at z=1

We report the results of J-band infrared spectroscopy of a sample of 13 z=1 field galaxies drawn from the Canada-France Redshift Survey, targeting galaxies whose redshifts place the rest frame

The Tully-Fisher relation at intermediate redshift ⋆,⋆⋆

Using the Very Large Telescope in Multi Object Spectroscopy mode, we have observed a sample of 113 field spiral galaxies in the FORS Deep Field (FDF) with redshifts in the range 0.1< z< 1.0. The

Galaxies under the Cosmic Microscope: A Gemini Multiobject Spectrograph Study of Lensed Disk Galaxy 289 in A2218

In this paper, we exploit the gravitational potential of the rich cluster A2218 as a magnifying glass. We demonstrate that the magnification due to the cluster allows us to observe distant background

The Panchromatic Starburst Intensity Limit at Low and High Redshift

The integrated bolometric effective surface brightness S_e distributions of starbursts are investigated for samples observed in 1. the rest frame ultraviolet (UV), 2. the far-infrared and H-alpha,

Internal Kinematics of Field Galaxies at Intermediate Redshifts

This paper describes the results of a survey of the internal kinematics of intermediate-redshift (z = 0.25-0.45) field galaxies. Spatially resolved spectra of the [O II] λλ3726, 3729 doublet emission

Internal Kinematics of Galaxies at z=0.25-0.45

Low-mass starbursting galaxies have been proposed as the explanation of the excess of faint galaxies observed at intermediate redshifts. If this hypothesis is correct, then intermediate redshift

The Nature of Starburst Galaxies

Utilizing a large sample of infrared-selected starburst galaxies having optical images and long-slit spectra, we explore the interrelationships between the properties of starbursts and relate these

The Tully—Fisher relation of cluster spirals at z = 0.83

We present the rest-frame B-band Tully‐Fisher relation for a sample of 8 cluster spiral galaxies at z = 0.83 and 19 field spirals at z = 0.15‐0.90 based on Very Large Telescope (VLT) spectroscopy and
