A total of 105 male Japanese quails (153.2 ± 10.21 g) ( Cortunix cortunix japonica ) were reared in an environmentally controlled house to investigate the effect of inclusion of Lippia javanica leaf meal on growth performance, haematological and serum biochemical parameters, and carcass and meat quality characteristics. [...] Key Method The quails were randomly allocated to 15 pens, with each pen holding 7 quails.Expand

Growth performance, blood parameters, carcass characteristics and meat quality traits in Potchefstroom Koekoek chickens fed Lippia javanica leaf meal
TLDR
It was concluded that L. javanica leaf meal can be included up to 50 g/kg in Potchefstroom koekoek chicken diets without causing negative effects on the birds’ feed intake, utilisation and weight gain. Expand
Exogenous carbohydrases do not improve the physiological and meat quality parameters of female Japanese quail fed canola-based diets
TLDR
It was concluded that inclusion of exogenous carbohydrases alone did not improve the utilization of a canola meal-based quail diet, however, there is a possibility that utilization of higher canola levels would be enhanced through multi-enzyme combinations. Expand
Protease treatment of canola meal-containing Japanese quail diets: Effect on physiological parameters and meat quality traits
TLDR
It was concluded that inclusion of protease does not improve the utilization of CM-containing diets in adult female Japanese quails and had no effect on haemo-biochemical parameters. Expand
Impact of dietary cold-pressed chia oil on growth, blood chemistry, haematology, immunity and antioxidant status of growing Japanese quail
TLDR
It was shown that quail diet supplementation with 0.4 chia oil/kg diet improved the growth performance, certain blood parameters and lipid profile, and immunity of growing quails. Expand
Carcass Characteristics, Meat Quality and Nutritional Profile of Pheasant, Quail and Guinea Fowl
TLDR
This chapter tackles three alternative poultry breeds pheasant, quail and Guinea fowl, which have a great potential and demand in markets of western countries and a briefly review of those variables than can affect meat obtained from these birds. Expand
A multi-strain probiotic administered via drinking water enhances feed conversion efficiency and meat quality traits in indigenous chickens
TLDR
It was concluded that probiotics can be used in place of prophylactic antibiotics in Potchefstroom koekoek cockerels. Expand
Effect of graded levels of red grape pomace (Vitis vinifera L.) powder on physiological and meat quality responses of Japanese quail
ABSTRACT This study evaluated the effect of dietary red grape pomace (RGP) powder on physiological and meat quality responses of Japanese quail. Three hundred quail birds were randomly distributed toExpand
Inhibitory action of Lippia gracilis Schauer essential oil on pathogenic bacteria and its effects as a growth promoter on quail
Aim of the study: To examine the in vitro sensitivity of Salmonella sp. and Escherichia coli strains to the microbial activity of Lippia gracilis Schauer essential oil (LGSEO) and to determine theExpand
Use of natural ingredients in Japanese quail diet and their effect on carcass and meat quality — A review
TLDR
The use of ingredients of natural origin in the diet of Japanese quail improves carcass quality characteristics and meat quality. Expand
Effect of Dietary Aspergillus Xylanase on Nutrient Digestibility and Utilization, Growth Performance and Size of Internal Organs in Broiler Chickens Offered Maize-Soybean Meal Based-Diets
TLDR
The optimum Aspergillus xylanase inclusion levels that caused the greatest response for all measured parameters was 2 g kgG1. Expand

The effects of Lippia javanica dietary inclusion on growth performance, carcass characteristics and fatty acid profiles of broiler chickens
TLDR
Overall, the findings from the study showed that inclusion of L. javanica in broiler diets at 5 g/kg feed has positive influences on growth performance, carcass characteristics and FA profiles of broiler meat. Expand
Growth performance, serum biochemistry and blood hematology of broiler chicks fed different levels of black seed (Nigella sativa) and peppermint (Mentha piperita).
TLDR
Investigation of the effect of dietary supplementation with black seed and peppermint on the performance, carcass traits, immune responses, serum biochemistry, hematological parameters and meat acceptability in broilers found it influenced body weight of broilers at 28 days of age. Expand
Performance, carcass characteristics, and immunity in broiler chickens fed dietary neem (Azadirachta indica) as alternative for an antibiotic growth promoter
TLDR
Dietary supplementation of flavophospholipol increased final body weight of broilers at 42 d of age compared with those fed diets supplemented with neem (P), which was found to improve growth performance, carcass traits, and humoral immune responses in broiler chickens. Expand
Methionine requirement of growing Japanese quails
TLDR
It was showed that methionine requirements for maximising carcass yield (e.g., BMY and LMY) might be higher than those needed for maximised performance and estimated values of methionne and TSAA requirements were 16 and 25%, respectively, higher thanThose recommended by NRC (1994) . Expand
Original Contribution EFFECTS OF ALKALI TREATMENT OF SOYABEAN ON CARCASS TRAITS, INTESTINAL MORPHOLOGY AND COOKING YIELD OF BROILERS
The effects of different alkali treatment of soyabeans on carcass traits, intestinal morphology and cooking yield of broilers was evaluated using 240 Anak broilers day-old chicks that were allocatedExpand
Meat quality of Nguni steers supplemented with Acacia karroo leaf-meal.
The objective of the study was to determine the meat quality of Nguni steers supplemented with Acacia karroo leaf-meal. Thirty 19-month old steers were randomly assigned to A. karroo leaf-meal (AK),Expand
Replacing soybean meal (SBM) by canola meal (CM) : The effects of multi-enzyme and phytase supplementation on the performance of growing and laying quails
In this research, the possibilities of using canola meal (CM) in place of soybean meal (SBM), and also the effects of multi-enzyme and phytase supplementation on the performance of quails wereExpand
Effect of grass or concentrate feeding systems on lamb carcass and meat quality.
TLDR
Overall the difference in meat quality between the two different growth rates was minimal and meat from stall fed animals was more tender and juicier than meat from grass-fed animals. Expand
Chemical composition, fatty acid content and antioxidant potential of meat from goats supplemented with Moringa (Moringa oleifera) leaves, sunflower cake and grass hay.
TLDR
It is indicated that the anti-oxidative potential of MOL may play a role in improving meat quality (chemical composition, colour and lipid stability) and antioxidant capacity of meat from goats supplemented with Moringa oleifera leaves. Expand
