In colloquial English, a “grower” is a man whose phallus expands significantly in length from the flaccid  to the erect state; a “shower” is a man whose phallus does not demonstrate such expansion. [] Key Method A retrospective review of 274 patients who underwent penile duplex Doppler ultrasound (PDDU) for erectile dysfunction between 2011 and 2013 was performed.
Penile size in adult men—recommendations for clinical and research measurements
TLDR
The data on measurement methods of the flaccid, stretched, and erected penis is reviewed with the aim of constructing a recommendation for best practice and no definitive evidence favoring one measuring method over the other is found.
On the validity of metrics for defining penile distensibility phenotypes
  • Patrick S. Phelan
  • Environmental Science
    International Journal of Impotence Research
  • 2018
TLDR
Their analysis is both conceptually and quantitatively incompatible with their clinical question, and distorts the relationship of their results to the literature, as it is demonstrated that the scale of absolute change is irrelevant.
Average-Size Erect Penis: Fiction, Fact, and the Need for Counseling
  • B. King
  • Psychology
Journal of sex & marital therapy
  • 2020
Abstract Most men believe that the average length of an erect penis is greater than 6 inches (15.24 cm). This belief is due, in part, to several often-cited studies that relied on self-reported
Growers versus showers: a meaningful (or useful) distinction?
  • A. Shindel
  • Medicine
    International Journal of Impotence Research
  • 2018
TLDR
A study that will be of great interest to the lay community and also of import to practicing urologists who routinely encounter patients with concerns about the appearance of their phallus.
Data from 14,597 penile measurements of vietnamese men
TLDR
Little is known about penile dimensions in South‐East Asian countries and how these measurements are influenced by gender identity, sexual orientation, and other factors.

Failure to attain stretched penile length after intracavernosal injection of a vasodilator agent is predictive of veno‐occlusive dysfunction on penile duplex Doppler ultrasonography
TLDR
Failure to reach maximal SPL during PDDU using ICI with a vasodilator agent predicted veno‐occlusive dysfunction, which is independent of both penile rigidity and tumescence, which could serve as another diagnostic tool for predicting veno-occlusive function when PDD U is not readily available.
Penile measurements in normal adult Jordanians and in patients with erectile dysfunction
TLDR
The purpose of this work was to determine penile size in adult normal and impotent Jordanian patients, and there was a significant correlation between height and midpoint circumference, flaccid and stretched lengths, and between stretched lengths and mid point circumference.
Comparing penile measurements in normal and erectile dysfunction subjects.
TLDR
The average of fully stretched penile length in normal potent men is 12.9 cm, whereas the patients with ED tend to have significantly shorter penises.
Penile Dimensions of Diabetic and Nondiabetic Men With Erectile Dysfunction: A Case–Control Study
  • N. Salama
  • Medicine
    American journal of men's health
  • 2018
TLDR
Diabetic and nondiabetic patients with ED presented, in varying degrees, significant decline in their penile dimensions, and this was more prevalent in diabetic patients.
Structural alterations in the tunica albuginea of the penis: impact of Peyronie's disease, ageing and impotence.
TLDR
The decrease in elastic fibre concentration and changes in microscopic features may contribute to erectile dysfunction by impairing the veno-occlusive function of the tunica albuginea.
Penile length in the flaccid and erect states: guidelines for penile augmentation.
Standardization of vascular assessment of erectile dysfunction: standard operating procedures for duplex ultrasound.
TLDR
This SOP describes CDDU procedure with focus on establishing uniformity and normative parameters and will help in standardization and establish uniformity in such data interpretation in in-office evaluation of erectile dysfunction.
Clinical study of the longitudinal deformation of the flaccid penis and of its variations with aging.
TLDR
The study shows that the flaccid penis is deformable, extensible and elastic in its longitudinal axis, and the analysis of the variations of these biomechanical properties with aging shows a significant decrease.
Penis size interacts with body shape and height to influence male attractiveness
TLDR
It is shown, based upon female assessment of digitally projected life-size, computer-generated images, that penis size interacts with body shape and height to determine male sexual attractiveness and shows that precopulatory sexual selection can play a role in the evolution of genital traits.
