Axions are a viable candidate for Cold Dark Matter (CDM) which should generically form minihalos of sub-planetary masses from white-noise isocurvature density fluctuations if the Peccei-Quinn phase transition occurs after inflation. Despite being denser than the larger halos formed out of adiabatic fluctuations from inflation, axion minihalos have surface densities much smaller than the critical value required for gravitational lensing to produce multiple images or high magnification, and hence…

Large-misalignment mechanism for the formation of compact axion structures: Signatures from the QCD axion to fuzzy dark matter
Axions are some of the best motivated particles beyond the Standard Model. We show how the attractive self-interactions of dark matter (DM) axions over a broad range of masses, from $10^{-22}$ eV to
Imprints of the early Universe on axion dark matter substructure
Despite considerable experimental progress large parts of the axion-like particle (ALP) parameter space remain difficult to probe in terrestrial experiments. In some cases, however, small-scale
Probing axion dark matter with 21 cm fluctuations from minihalos
If the symmetry breaking inducing the axion occurs after the inflation, the large axion isocurvature perturbations can arise due to a different axion amplitude in each causally disconnected patch.
Dark matter microhalos from simplified models
We introduce simplified models for enhancements in the matter power spectrum at small scales and study their implications for dark matter substructure and gravitational observables. These models
CMB and 21-cm bounds on early structure formation boosted by primordial black hole entropy fluctuations
The dark matter (DM) can consist of the primordial black holes (PBHs) in addition to the conventional weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs). The Poisson fluctuations of the PBH number density
Smallest remnants of early matter domination
The evolution of the universe prior to Big Bang Nucleosynthesis could have gone through a phase of early matter domination which enhanced the growth of small-scale dark matter structure. If this
Dark Matters on the Scale of Galaxies
The cold dark matter model successfully explains both the emergence and evolution of cosmic structures on large scales and, when we include a cosmological constant, the properties of the homogeneous
Friendship in the Axiverse: Late-time direct and astrophysical signatures of early-time nonlinear axion dynamics
A generic low-energy prediction of string theory is the existence of a large collection of axions, commonly known as a string axiverse. Axions also have a natural cosmological production mechanism,
On simple analytic models of microlensing amplification statistics
Gravitational microlensing is a key probe of the nature of dark matter and its distribution on the smallest scales. For many practical purposes, confronting theory to observation requires to model
Hamilton’s Object – a clumpy galaxy straddling the gravitational caustic of a galaxy cluster: constraints on dark matter clumping
We report the discovery of a ‘folded’ gravitationally lensed image, ’Hamilton’s Object’, found in a HST image of the field near the AGN SDSS J223010.47-081017.8 (which has redshift 0.62). The lensed

Probing Dark Matter Subhalos in Galaxy Clusters Using Highly Magnified Stars
Luminous stars in background galaxies straddling the lensing caustic of a foreground galaxy cluster can be individually detected due to extreme magnification factors of $\sim 10^2$--$10^3$, as
Dark Matter under the Microscope: Constraining Compact Dark Matter with Caustic Crossing Events
A galaxy cluster acts as a cosmic telescope over background galaxies but also as a cosmic microscope magnifying the imperfections of the lens. The diverging magnification of lensing caustics enhances
Rotating drops of axion dark matter
We consider how QCD axions produced by the misalignment mechanism could form galactic dark matter halos. We recall that stationary, gravitationally stable axion field configurations have the size of
Structure formation and microlensing with axion miniclusters
If the symmetry breaking responsible for axion dark matter production occurs during the radiation-dominated epoch in the early Universe, then this produces large amplitude perturbations that collapse
Detecting lensing-induced diffraction in astrophysical gravitational waves
Gravitational waves emitted from compact binary coalescence can be subject to wave diffraction if they are gravitationally lensed by an intervening mass clump whose Schwarzschild timescale matches
Searching for the QCD Axion with Gravitational Microlensing.
Microlensing data from the EROS survey and from recent observations with the Subaru Hyper Suprime Cam are used to place constraints on the minicluster scenario, and if accurate theoretical predictions for f_{MC} can be made in the future, then microlensing can be used to exclude or discover the QCD axion.
Microlensing of Extremely Magnified Stars near Caustics of Galaxy Clusters
Recent observations of lensed galaxies at cosmological distances have detected individual stars that are extremely magnified when crossing the caustics of lensing clusters. In idealized cluster
The survival and disruption of cold dark matter microhaloes: implications for direct and indirect detection experiments
If the dark matter particle is a neutralino, then the first structures to form are cuspy cold dark matter (CDM) haloes collapsing after redshifts z ≈ 100 in the mass range 10 −6 ‐10 −3 M . We carry
Did LIGO Detect Dark Matter?
It is considered that the black-hole (BH) binary detected by LIGO may be a signature of dark matter, and reasonable estimates span a range that overlaps the 2-53  Gpc^{-3} yr^{-1} rate estimated from GW150914, thus raising the possibility that LigO has detected PBH dark matter.
Massive Primordial Black Holes as Dark Matter and their detection with Gravitational Waves
Massive Primordial Black Holes (MPBH) can be formed after inflation due to broad peaks in the primordial curvature power spectrum that collapse gravitationally during the radiation era, to form
