This book is on environmental management. Most of its contents appeared in nine papers in the Springer journal with that name. The speciality of the contribution of the author is that he linked gradient analysis (which he learned while at Cornell with Whittaker) with modeling of ecosystem dynamics, particularly changes related to fire and weather conditions.
