The effect of epidermal growth factor (EGF) on the capacity for anchorage-independent growth of chemically treated rat hepatic epithelial cells has been investigated. We have performed the studies using 16 clonally derived cell strains which represented single cell-derived subpopulations of a heterogeneous rat hepatic epithelial cell line that had been tumorigenically transformed by 11 repeated treatments with N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine.
