OBJECTIVE To determine whether prepubertal (Tanner I) obese children have diminished peripheral insulin sensitivity (IS) and to determine whether obesity affects the ability of glucose to stimulate its own disposal (glucose effectiveness, GE). DESIGN Cross-sectional study of two groups.
