The Fleischner Society was founded in 1969 by a group of radiologists to honor the memory of Felix Fleischner and to promote the exchange of information between basic scientists and clinical investigators interested in chest disease. Today this multidisciplinary group is best known for the Symposia on Chest Disease that it conducts annually, but it has sought, in the words of its motto, “to advance knowledge of the normal and diseased chest” in various other ways.
