Ultracold atoms provide an ideal system for the realization of quantum technologies, but also for the study of fundamental physical questions such as the emergence of decoherence and classicality in quantum many-body systems. Here, we study the global structure of the quantum dynamics of bosonic atoms in a double-well trap and analyze the conditions for the generation of many-particle entanglement and spin squeezing which have important applications in quantum metrology. We show how the quantum…

Dynamics of entanglement in a dissipative Bose-Hubbard dimer
We study the connection between the semiclassical phase space of the Bose-Hubbard dimer and inherently quantum phenomena in this model, such as entanglement and dissipation-induced coherence. Near
Quantum chaos in a Bose-Hubbard dimer with modulated tunneling
In the large-N, classical limit, the Bose-Hubbard dimer undergoes a transition to chaos when its tunneling rate is modulated in time. We use exact and approximate numerical simulations to determine
Nature of self-localization of Bose-Einstein condensates in optical lattices
We analyze the nature of a novel type of self-trapping transition called self-localization (SL) of Bose-Einstein condensates in one-dimensional optical lattices in the presence of weak local
Number-phase uncertainty and quantum dynamics of bosons and fermions interacting with a finite range and large scattering length in a double-well potential
We define the standard quantum limit (SQL) for phase and number fluctuations, and describe two-mode squeezing for number and phase variables. When phase is treated as a unitary quantum-mechanical
A bosonic multi-state two-well model
Inspired by the increasing possibility of experimental control in ultracold atomic physics, we introduce a new Lax operator and use it to construct and solve models with two wells and two on-well
Out of equilibrium mean field dynamics in the transverse field Ising model
We investigate the quench dynamics of the transverse field Ising model on a finite fully connected lattice as a prime example of non-equilibrium mean field dynamics. Using a rate function approach we
Dynamical phase transitions in a two-species bosonic Josephson junction
We investigate dynamical phase transitions that are induced by interspecies interaction in a two-species bosonic Josephson junctions (BJJ), based on semi-classical theory. In zero-phase mode, similar
Bose–Hubbard dimers, Viviani’s windows and pendulum dynamics
The two-mode Bose–Hubbard model in the mean-field approximation is revisited emphasizing a geometric interpretation where the system orbits appear as intersection curves of a (Bloch) sphere and a

Freak or rogue waves are giant waves in the ocean, up to tens of meters high, that seem to form out of the blue, posing a major threat for even the largest ships. It is no wonder that freak waves

Quantum localization and bound-state formation in Bose-Einstein condensates
We discuss the possibility of exponential quantum localization in systems of ultracold bosonic atoms with repulsive interactions in open optical lattices without disorder. We show that exponential
Quantum phase-space picture of Bose-Einstein condensates in a double well (17 pages)
We present a quantum phase-space model of the Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) in a double-well potential. In a quantum two-mode approximation we examine the eigenvectors and eigenvalues and find that
Many-particle entanglement with Bose–Einstein condensates
This work proposes a method to achieve substantial entanglement of a large number of atoms in a Bose–Einstein condensate, which is then allowed to evolve freely and should be realizable with present technology.
Squeezing and entanglement in a Bose–Einstein condensate
Spin squeezed states suitable for atomic interferometry are demonstrated by splitting a condensate into a few parts using a lattice potential by implying entanglement between the particles.
Evolution of the macroscopically entangled states in optical lattices
We consider dynamics of boson condensates in finite optical lattices under a slow external perturbation which brings the system to the unstable equilibrium. It is shown that quantum fluctuations
Decay of a Bose-Einstein condensate in a dissipative lattice – the mean-field approximation and beyond
Abstract The dynamical evolution of a Bose-Einstein condensate in an open optical lattice is studied. Based on the Bose-Hubbard model we rederive the mean-field limit for the case of an environmental
Beyond mean-field dynamics in open Bose-Hubbard chains
We investigate the effects of phase noise and particle loss on the dynamics of a Bose-Einstein condensate in an optical lattice. Starting from the many-body master equation, we discuss the
Many-particle entanglement in two-component Bose-Einstein condensates
We investigate schemes to dynamically create many-particle entangled states of a two-component Bose-Einstein condensate in a very short time proportional to $1/N,$ where N is the number of condensate
Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen entanglement strategies in two-well Bose-Einstein condensates.
This work shows how to generate the required entanglement, utilizing either an adiabatic two-mode or a dynamic four-mode interaction strategy, with techniques that take advantage of s-wave scattering interactions to provide the nonlinear coupling.
Dissipation-induced coherence and stochastic resonance of an open two-mode Bose-Einstein condensate
We discuss the dynamics of a Bose-Einstein condensate in a double-well trap subject to phase noise and particle loss. The phase coherence of a weakly interacting condensate, experimentally measured
