Cladocera is a primarily-freshwater monophyletic group, an important component of the microcrustacean zooplankton. They inhabit most types of continental fresh and saline water habitats, occurring more abundantly in both temporary and permanent stagnant waters. Cladocera is an ancient group of Palaeozoic origin. During a faunistic survey in temporary ponds under the influence of riparian vegetation, in the Camucim Forest Protected Area, Pernambuco Endemism Center, Brazil, the cladocerans Moina dumonti Kotov, Elias-Gutierrez and Granado-Ramirez, 2005 and Chydorus nitidulus were found, their first records in the Oriental Northeast Atlantic hydrographic region.
