DNA methylation is a crucial epigenetic process which helps control gene transcription activity in eukaryotes. Information regarding the methylation status of a regulatory sequence of a particular gene provides important knowledge of this transcriptional control. DNA methylation can be detected using several methods, including sodium bisulfite sequencing and restriction digestion using methylation-sensitive endonucleases. Methyl-Sensitive Amplification Polymorphism (MSAP) is a technique used to…

Detection of Differential DNA Methylation Under Stress Conditions Using Bisulfite Sequence Analysis.
TLDR
This technique allows a single nucleotide resolution of 5-methylcytosine on a genome scale and is more reliable than the conventional clone-based bisulfite sequencing, but it is costly, requires large amount of DNA and its output data is not easily handled.
Analysis of cytosine methylation status in potato by methylation-sensitive amplified polymorphisms under low-temperature stress
TLDR
Stress-induced changes in the banding patterns of DNA methylation primarily resulted from full methylation of CG (internal cytosine of 5’-CCGG-3') on double DNA strands.
Laser Irradiation-Induced DNA Methylation Changes Are Heritable and Accompanied with Transpositional Activation of mPing in Rice
TLDR
Results indicate that heritable DNA methylation changes can be readily induced by low-dose laser irradiation, and which can be accompanied by transpostional activation of transposable elements.

TLDR
A map of genome-wide DNA methylation characteristics of cotton leaves under salt stress is constructed using the methylated DNA immunoprecipitation sequencing method and the results showed that the methylation reads on chromosome 9 were most comparable with those on the other chromosomes, but the greatest changes occurred on chromosome 8 under Salt stress.
Comparison of DNA methylation in developing seeds of Ricinus communis L. using MSAP analysis
TLDR
The results clearly demonstrated that the MSAP technique is very useful for the analysis of the global DNA methylation state in castor and the complexity ofDNA methylation changes during seed development.
DNA methylation in sugarcane somaclonal variants assessed through methylation-sensitive amplified polymorphism.
TLDR
The MASP technique proved to be a promising tool to early assessment of genetic fidelity of micro-propagated sugarcane plants and alteration due to gain or loss of internal cytosine methylation was observed in the abnormal in vitro Sugarcane plantlets.
Analysis of DNA methylation level by methylation-sensitive amplification polymorphism in half smooth tongue sole (Cynoglossus semilaevis) subjected to salinity stress
TLDR
DNA methylation regulates tissue- specific epiloci, and may respond to salinity stress by regulating gene expression to maintain animal survival and activity, as a result of regulation of epigenetic mechanism in environmental stimuli.

TLDR
Recent developments and future directions for identifying and mapping methylation are discussed in an effort to help colleagues to identify the approaches that best serve their research interests.
Inhibition of DNA methylation and reactivation of silenced genes by zebularine.
TLDR
Zebularine is a stable DNA demethylating agent and the first drug in its class able to reactivate an epigenetically silenced gene by oral administration.
AtMBD9 modulates Arabidopsis development through the dual epigenetic pathways of DNA methylation and histone acetylation.
TLDR
The results suggest that AtMBD9 controls flowering time and axillary branching by modulating gene expression through DNA methylation and histone acetylation, and reveal another component of the epigenetic mechanism controlling gene expression.
Remodeling of DNA Methylation and Phenotypic and Transcriptional Changes in Synthetic Arabidopsis Allotetraploids1
TLDR
It is shown that DNA demethylation induced and repressed two different transcriptomes and is consistent with the hypothesis that synthetic allotetraploids have compromised mechanisms of epigenetic gene regulation.
Two Arabidopsis methylation-deficiency mutations confer only partial effects on a methylated endogenous gene family.
TLDR
A novel reporter strain of Arabidopsis in which PAI2 silencing could be monitored by a blue fluorescent plant phenotype diagnostic of tryptophan pathway defects revealed that intermediate levels of methylation correlate with intermediate suppression of the fluorescent phenotype.
DNA methylation patterns of Brachypodium distachyon chromosomes and their alteration by 5-azacytidine treatment
TLDR
It was found that some chromosome pairs underwent dem methylation more easily than others, but there was no apparent regularity in demethylation of particular chromosome segments.
5-methylcytosine, gene regulation, and cancer.
AFLP: a new technique for DNA fingerprinting.
TLDR
The AFLP technique provides a novel and very powerful DNA fingerprinting technique for DNAs of any origin or complexity that allows the specific co-amplification of high numbers of restriction fragments.
Robertson's Mutator transposons in A. thaliana are regulated by the chromatin-remodeling gene Decrease in DNA Methylation (DDM1).
TLDR
DNA transposons in plants appear to be regulated by chromatin remodeling, and gene silencing and paramutation are also regulated by DDM1, providing support for the proposition that epigenetic silencing is related to transposon regulation.
5-Methylcytosine distribution and genome organization in triticale before and after treatment with 5-azacytidine.
TLDR
Using genomic in situ hybridization with rye DNA as a probe, it was found the chromosomes of the R genome were not intermixed with the wheat chromosomes in 85% of nuclei, which correlates with previous data showing that expression of R-genome rRNA genes is activated by 5-AC treatment and remains partially activated in the next generation.
