The effect of Ginkgo biloba (EGb), a plant extract with an antioxidant effect, has been studied on gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity in male wistar rats. Ginkgo biloba extract (300 mg/kg BW) was administered orally 2 days before and 8 days concurrently with gentamicin (80 mg/kg BW). Saline treated animals served as control. Estimations of urine creatinine, glucose, blood urea, serum creatinine, plasma and kidney tissue MDA were carried out after 8 days of gentamicin treatment. Kidneys were… Expand
Lack of Nephroprotective Efficacy of Althaea Officinalis Flower Extract Against Gentamicin Renal Toxicity in Male Rats
TLDR
Although AOFE acts as an antioxidant, at the doses used in the current study did not ameliorate nephrotoxicity induced by GM. Expand
Protective effect of Moringa oleifera leaves against gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity in rabbits.
TLDR
It is indicated that aqueous-ethanolic extract of M. oleifera leaves attenuates renal injury in rabbits treated with gentamicin, possibly by inhibiting lipid peroxidation. Expand
Protective effect of pomegranate flower extract against gentamicin-induced renal toxicity in male rats
TLDR
It is concluded that PFE 25 mg/kg is the effective dose to ameliorate nephrotoxicity induced by GM. Expand
The effect of Nigella sativa oil on gentamicin nephrotoxicity in rats.

TLDR
Treatment with N. sativa oil produced a dose-dependent amelioration of the biochemical and histological indices of GM nephrotoxicity that was statistically significant at the two higher doses used. Expand
The effect of treatment with the medicinal plant Rhazya stricta decne on gentamicin nephrotoxicity in rats.

  • Phytomedicine : international journal of phytotherapy and phytopharmacology

TLDR
The results suggest that R. stricta water extract may contain compounds that could potentially ameliorate GM nephrotoxicity in rats. Expand
Protective effects of different antioxidants and amrinone on vancomycin-induced nephrotoxicity.
TLDR
The results indicate that the three antioxidants and amrinone have potential protective effects against vancomycin-induced nephrotoxicity, which might in part be due to inhibition of free oxygen radical production. Expand
Precautionary Effect of Ginkgo biloba Against Mercury-Induced Acute Nephro-Hepatotoxicity in male Rats
Mercury (II) is an important factor in nephro-hepatoxicity that can enter the body through marine diets and amalgams. The present study was designed to investigate the protective effect of the GinkgoExpand
Therapeutic dose of Ginkgo biloba extract 761 may alter the urine excretion of Wistar rats
Wistar rats (n=20) were divided in two groups: G1 received 2 mg/kg of GBE (Ginkgo biloba extract 761), whereas G2 received the same volume of a sodium chloride solution (0.9%), both for 10 days.Expand
Effect of caraway on gentamicin-induced oxidative stress, inflammation and nephrotoxicity in rats
Different potentially therapeutic approaches to prevent or attenuate gentamicin (GEM) induced nephrotoxicity have been proposed. The aim of the present study was to investigate the possibleExpand
Preventive effect of Stachys lavandulifolia against gentamicin-induced oxidative stress and nephrotoxicity in rats
TLDR
It is suggested that treatment with SL extract may be helpful to reduce gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity and the oxidative injury induced by GM was prevented by SL400 mg/kg treatment. Expand

TLDR
Changes in blood urea, serum creatinine, Ccr, Licr and proximal tubule fractional re absorption induced by CsA were significantly prevented by LA. Expand
Melatonin: an antioxidant protects against cyclosporine-induced nephrotoxicity.
TLDR
Mel, through its antioxidant properties, provides protection against CsA-induced nephrotoxicity, and microcalcification in corticomedullary junction seen with CsCsA was prevented by Mel. Expand
Protective effect of human ulinastatin against gentamicin-induced acute renal failure in rats.
TLDR
It is indicated that human ulinastatin has a prominent protective effect on gentamicin-induced acute renal failure in rats, and the lysosomal membrane stabilizing effect is possibly involved as a mechanism of this action. Expand
Nitrendipine Protects Against Aminoglycoside Nephrotoxicity in the Rat
TLDR
Observations suggest a potential pharmacologic approach to preventing a common problem with substantial morbidity, aminoglycoside nephrotoxicity, among hospitalized patients despite close attention to pharmacokinetics and dosing schedules. Expand
Failure of inhibition of lipid peroxidation by vitamin E to protect against gentamicin nephrotoxicity in the rat.
TLDR
The observation that inhibition of lipid peroxidation by two distinct antioxidants failed to prevent proximal tubular cell injury and renal dysfunction associated with gentamicin administration leads us to conclude that lipidPeroxidation is a consequence and not a cause of gentamic in-induced nephrotoxicity. Expand
Effect of magnesium diet in gentamicin-induced acute renal failure in rats.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that high magnesium intake protected the kidney against injury induced by gentamicin, and a reduction in nephrotoxicity was probably due to competition of binding between magnesium and Gentamicin to the renal membrane. Expand
Protective effect of piperacillin against nephrotoxicity of cephaloridine and gentamicin in animals.
TLDR
The concomitant administration of piperacillin resulted in a significant protective effect against the nephrotoxicity of cephaloridine in rabbits and of gentamicin in rats. Expand
