The alpha 2-adrenergic receptors are linked to inhibition of adenylylcyclase and, under certain circumstances, to stimulation of phospholipid hydrolysis via pertussis toxin-sensitive G proteins. Here we show that alpha 2-adrenergic receptors can couple to an alternative signaling pathway.
