OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to examine the association between gestational weight gain (GWG) in a woman's first and second pregnancies. STUDY DESIGN We conducted a retrospective observational cohort study of 27,771 women with their first and second births in North Carolina's Pregnancy Nutrition Surveillance System database from 1996-2004.
