Geosynthetics usage in pavement systems grew steadily from the early 1970’s through the early 1990’s and appears to have reached a plateau. Paving fabric interlayers hold the largest share of the market; however, there has been a slow growth in the use of geosynthetic reinforcement in the subgrade and base layers. Geosynthetics which serve a reinforcement function are gaining some acceptance in the overlay market.
