George Albert Boulenger was born in Brussels on 19 October 1858 and died on 23 November 1937. He was the son of Gustave Boulenger, notary of Mons, and was educated at the University of Brussels. From boyhood he was interested in animals and whilst at the University became known at the Musee d’Histoire Naturelle in Brussels, being appointed to the staff as an assistant naturalist in 1880.
