This study reports a new Trichodinidae, Trichodina bellottii n. sp., parasitizing the pearly fish Austrolebias bellottii from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Its small subunit ribosomal ribonucleic acid (SSU rDNA) was sequenced for the first time. Based on the results from morphological identification, SSU rDNA sequencing, and Elliptical Fourier analysis, the new species was identified and compared with similar species. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the genetic distances among the new species… Expand

Morphological and molecular characterization of two Trichodina (Ciliophora, Peritrichia) species from freshwater fishes in China.
The findings suggest that the phylogenetic lineage of trichodinids might not correspond with their living environments, host species or even some morphological characteristics. Expand
Morphology, molecular phylogeny, and taxonomy of trichodinids (Ciliophora, Mobilida) from Calanoid copepods
The data suggest that the species T. diaptomi, described recently, is actually a synonym of T. acuta and that this species may be related to fish and copepod hosts, and the urgent need to better investigate the polymorphism and host specificity within the Mobilida is highlighted. Expand
Characterization of Euplotes lynni nov. spec., E. indica nov. spec. and description of E. aediculatus and E. woodruffi (Ciliophora, Euplotidae) using an integrative approach.
An integrative approach combining morphological features, molecular analysis, and ecological characteristics was carried out to understand the phylogenetic position of the reported species within the different clades of the genus Euplotes. Expand
Morphological and molecular identification of epibiontic sessilid Epistylis semiciculus n. sp. (ciliophora, Peritrichia) from Procambarus clarkia (Crustacea, Decapoda) in China
This study is the first morphological and molecular characterization of a sessilid isolated from P. clarkia under aquaculture conditions and supported that the two morphotypes are single species of genus Epistylis rather than distinct species based in their distinct size ranges and temporal presence events. New record of Trichodina unionis (Ciliophora, Trichodinidae) from freshwater gastropods in Bangkok, Thailand
The characteristics of the denticles indicated T. unionis as having moderately wide blades and moderately curved blade margins, with distinctive bend angles near the distal end, which showed some variations, which could be due to food availability. Expand
Trichodinids (Ciliophora: Trichodinidae) on Rocky-tidal Fishes from the Baja California Peninsula, Mexico.
5 ciliate species from the family Trichodinidae were found associated with 8 fish hosts from the rocky intertidal zone of the western coast of the Baja California Peninsula, Mexico, suggesting a wide-continuous distribution of the species throughout the study area. Expand
Prevalence and Histopathological Studies of Trichodina spp. Infecting Oreochromis niloticus in Behera Governorate, Egypt
The study aimed to determine the seasonal dynamics of Trichodinids infecting Oreochromis niloticus and their Histopathological effects and found that the infection rate was affected significantly by the season. Expand
Trichodinid ectoparasites (Ciliophora: Peritrichia) of non-native pumpkinseed (Lepomis gibbosus) in Europe
Trichodinid ectoparasites (Ciliophora: Peritrichia) of non-native pumpkinseed (Lepomis gibbosus) in Europe are studied for their role in the establishment of phytochemical barriers to pumpkinseed establishment in Europe. Expand

Morphological and Molecular description of a new species, Trichodina cirhinii sp. nov. (Ciliophora: Tichodinidae), infesting native freshwater fish Cirrhinus mrigala
A new species of the genus Trichodina is described found on the gills of Indian major carp, Cirrhinus mrigala, and morphological and molecular study suggest that this species is a new species. Expand
Morphological and Molecular Identification of the New Species, Trichodina pseudoheterodentata sp. n. (Ciliophora, Mobilida, Trichodinidae) from the Channel Catfish, Ictalurus punctatus, in Chongqing China
Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the genetic distances among the new species and similar species reached interspecific levels, furthermore, the phylogenetic study also validated the identification of T. pseudoheterodentata and its placement in the genus Trichodina. Expand
Differentiation of three species of the genus Upeneus (Mullidae) based on otolith shape analysis
The shapes of sagittae are compared in three related species of the genus Upeneus (U. tragula, U. margarethae, and U. sundaicus) from North Vietnam (Ha Long Bay) based on elliptic Fourier analysis and multivariate statistics. Expand
A further contribution to the taxonomy of the Trichodinidae (Ciliophora: Peritrichia) and a review of the taxonomic status of some fish ectoparasitic trichodinids
This paper proposes a method to describe the shape of the denticles by constructing lines extending from the centre of the adhesive disc to the tip of the Denticles, which provide fixed points of reference that can aid in an accurate description ofThe denticle elements. Expand
