Imidacloprid is a neonicotinoid insecticide combining excellent efficiency against parasites with low toxicity for mammals. Commercially, it is co-formulated with dimethyl sulfoxide, methylpyrrolidone, propylene carbonate and mineral oil, which can modify its bioavailability and toxicological profile for humans following occupational exposure.
