The objective of this study was to compare different implementations of genomic selection to a conventional maternal pig breeding scheme, when selection was based partly on production traits and partly on maternal traits. A nucleus pig breeding population with size and structure similar to Norwegian Landrace was simulated where equal weight was used for maternal and production traits. To genotype the boars at the boar station and base the final selection of boars on genomic breeding values…
Genomic selection strategies to improve maternal traits in Norwegian White Sheep.
TLDR
Results showed genomic selection schemes to increase genetic gain for maternal traits but reduced genetic gain at increased rates of inbreeding in Norwegian White Sheep.
Use of field data in pig genomic selection schemes: a simulation study.
TLDR
Testing of a genomic selection pig breeding scheme found that obtaining records from offspring of already genotyped nucleus animals had more impact on genetic gain than to genotype more distant relatives with phenotypes to update the reference population.
Implementation strategies for genomic selection in swine
TLDR
There was no difference in genetic improvement between counterpart scenarios where early growth information was and was not included, and traits in the breeding goal included off-test growth rate and total number born.
Genomic selection in pigs: state of the art and perspectives
TLDR
This review focused on the specific applications of the genomic selection in pigs, considering its limits, its advantages and its perspectives throughout an analysis of the simulation studies and field applications already available targeting many different traits (with high and low heritability).
Experimental evaluation of the effects of selection on reproductive and robustness traits in a Large White pig population
TLDR
It is shown that 2 decades of selection have resulted in large gains for major traits of interest, but have also adversely affected traits such as longevity, risk of mortality, trait variability, which tend to indicate an unfavorable effect of selection on pig robustness.
Genomic selection for improved crossbred performance
TLDR
This thesis shows that by going beyond traditional genomic selection models, phenotypes can be predicted more accurately and these improved models should be considered to improve crossbred performance.
On the added value of genomics for accurate prediction in pig breeding: learning from historical data
TLDR
Evaluating variation in estimated breeding values (EBVs) before and after genotyping for individuals that lack own or progeny performance records corroborate the added value of genomics for selection as previously demonstrated by empirical results based on real and simulated data.
The impact of selective genotyping on the response to selection using single-step genomic best linear unbiased prediction.
TLDR
The current study has shown that animals can be selectively genotyped in order to optimize the response to selection as a function of the cost to conduct a breeding program using single-step genomic best linear unbiased prediction.

Genomic selection for maternal traits in pigs.
TLDR
The conclusion is that genomic selection can increase genetic gain for traits that are measured on females, which includes several traits with economic importance in maternal pig breeds.
Genomic selection strategies in dairy cattle: Strong positive interaction between use of genotypic information and intensive use of young bulls on genetic gain.
TLDR
A breeding scheme with genomic selection and with intensive use of young bulls (a turbo scheme) seems to offer the greatest potential as inclusion of genomically enhanced breeding values (GEBV) for an indicator trait in the selection index increased ΔG(AG) in the turbo scheme and decreased ΔF.
Testing strategies for genomic selection in aquaculture breeding programs
TLDR
Investigation of a general genomic selection scheme for aquaculture found rates of inbreeding were reduced by 81% in genomic selection schemes compared to traditional selection schemes for the parameters of the basic scheme, due to within-family selection.
Application of selection index calculations to determine selection strategies in genomic breeding programs.
TLDR
The availability of highly accurate GEBV for production traits and low-accuracy GEBVs for functional traits increased the risk of widening the gap between selection responses in production and functionality, and an alternative selection strategy considering only 2 pathways of selection for genotyped male calves and for cow dams was evaluated.

TLDR
This paper has extended a previously proposed theory of artificial evolution to demonstrate, using deterministic simulation, how choice of breeding scheme design can be used as a tool to manipulate the direction of genetic progress, whereas the breeding goal remains focussed on the factors motivating individual farm decision makers.
Genetic correlations between reproduction and production traits in swine.
TLDR
Genetic correlations between reproduction and production traits were estimated in swine, indicating that selection toward reduced BF at 100 kg live weight may have an unfavorable impact on WTS2 and single-trait selection for enhanced LMC may affect NBA1 and NBA2.
The efficiency of genome-wide selection for genetic improvement of net merit.
TLDR
The results of this study indicate that the effectiveness of the GEBV-assisted index I₃ is affected by heritability of and genetic correlation between traits, the ratio of genetic variances between traits), the genomic-genetic variance ratio of each index trait, the proportion of genetic correlation accounted for by the genomic markers, and the accuracy of predictions of both EBV and GBV.
Inbreeding in genome-wide selection.
TLDR
Genome-wide prediction of breeding values enables increased genetic gain while at the same time reducing DeltaFG when compared with sib and BLUP selection, and achieves high accuracies of estimated breeding values through better prediction of the Mendelian sampling term component ofbreeding values.
Estimation of linkage disequilibrium in four US pig breeds
TLDR
Estimates of LD in four US breeds of pigs and persistence of phase as a measure of prediction reliability of markers in one breed by those in another are found and found that markers less than 10 kb apart could be predicted with a maximal accuracy of 0.92 for Landrace with Yorkshire.
