Allelic frequencies of eight autosomal short‐tandem repeat (STR) loci (TH01, TPOx, CSF1PO, vWA, FES/FPS, F13A1, F13B, and CD4) were determined in 400 individuals born in the State of São Paulo. No significant deviations from Hardy‐Weinberg equilibrium were found in any loci analyzed. The Unweighted Pair‐Group Method with Arithmetic Mean (UPGMA) tree constructed based on genetic distances revealed that the present population was grouped with Europeans, and separated from African and Amerindian…
Genomic ancestry in urban Afro-Brazilians
TLDR
Allelic frequencies for seven STR loci obtained from a sample of 70 individuals identified as Afro-Brazilian and 150 as mulatto, showed estimates of interethnic admixture showed 62%, 26% and 12% of European, African and Amerindian contribution, respectively, for the mulatto sample.
X-chromosome genetic variation in São Paulo State (Brazil) population
Abstract As data on X-chromosomal short tandem repeats (X-STRs) for the Brazilian population are scarse, the aim of this study was to determine the allele frequencies of five X-STRs (DXS6854,
Genetic data of 15 autosomal STR loci: an analysis of the Araraquara population colonization (São Paulo, Brazil)
TLDR
The aim of this work was to characterize the genetic profile of the population of Araraquara (São Paulo, Brazil) by analyzing 15 STR loci included in the PowerPlex® 16 System and to correlate these data with the migration history of thepopulation.
Genetic composition of Brazilian population samples based on a set of twenty‐eight ancestry informative SNPs
TLDR
Analysis of information content of 28 ancestry‐informative SNPs into multiplexed panels using three parental population sources to infer the genetic admixture in an urban sample of the five Brazilian geopolitical regions suggested little genetic differentiation between the South and the remaining regions.
HLA-G alleles and HLA-G 14 bp polymorphisms in a Brazilian population.
TLDR
The genotyping analysis identified 11 different HLA-G alleles, including the recently described G*010110 allele, and four new variants in this population, suggesting increased levels of intrapopulational genetic diversity that may be because of the admixed nature of the sample.
A systematic scoping review of the genetic ancestry of the Brazilian population
TLDR
The aim of this study was to overview the genetic ancestry estimates for different Brazilian geographic regions and analyze factors involved in these estimates, indicating that the ancestry estimates are influenced by the type of molecular marker and the sampling method.
Haplotype frequencies based on eight polymorphic sites at the 3' untranslated region of the HLA-G gene in individuals from two different geographical regions of Brazil.
TLDR
The results showed that most polymorphic sites present a similar distribution in both populations, except for the lower frequency of the +3003C allele in the Northeastern population compared to the Southeastern population, and the diversity of haplotypes was distinct for each population.
Allele distribution of six STR/miniSTR loci (CD4, FABP2, D12S391, D14S1434, D22S1045 and D10S1248) for forensic purposes in Southeastern Brazil
TLDR
These new STR multiplexes will be useful for extending current marker sets for forensic and paternity purposes, and due to their ease of analysis and high informativity, these new STR/miniSTRs tested showed observed heterozygosities over 0.66.
Relationship between Ancestry Inferred By Molecular Analysis, Self-Report and Hetero-Classification
TLDR
The results showed a significant correlation between skin color and predominant ancestry, self-reported and hetero-classified by volunteers, in comparison with the genetic ancestry, an important potential application of these AIMs in forensic investigations.
Differentiation of African components of ancestry to stratify groups in a case-control study of a Brazilian urban population.
TLDR
The applicability of single-tube 34-plex ancestry informative markers (AIM) single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) to estimate the African Component of Ancestry (ACA) to design a future case-control association study of a Brazilian urban sample is explored.

The ancestry of Brazilian mtDNA lineages.
TLDR
The mtDNA pool of present-day Brazilians clearly reflects the imprints of the early Portuguese colonization process (involving directional mating), as well as the recent immigrant waves (from Europe) of the last century.
The phylogeography of Brazilian Y-chromosome lineages.
TLDR
DNA polymorphisms in the nonrecombining portion of the Y-chromosome are examined to investigate the contribution of distinct patrilineages to the present-day white Brazilian population, which agrees with the known history of the peopling of Brazil since 1500.
Genetic influences on health: does race matter?
TLDR
Geographic ancestry and explicit genetic information are alternatives to race that appear to be more accurate predictors of genetic risk factors that influence health.
Evaluation of 13 short tandem repeat loci for use in personal identification applications.
TLDR
A PCR-based DNA-typing method using 13 unlinked short tandem repeat (STR) loci is presented to provide a rapid, sensitive, and reliable method of DNA typing for parentage testing, forensic identification, and medical diagnostics.
