Abstract Background: Sogatella furcifera is an important phloem sap-sucking and plant virus-transmitting migratory insect of rice. Because of its high reproductive potential, dispersal capability and transmission of plant viral diseases, S. furcifera causes considerable damage to rice grain production and has great economical and agricultural impacts. Comprehensive studies into ecological aspects and virus–host interactions of S. furcifera have been limited because of the lack of a well…

Genome sequence of the small brown planthopper, Laodelphax striatellus
TLDR
Gene family expansion and transcriptomic analyses provided hints to the genomic basis of the differences in important traits such as host range, migratory habit, and plant virus transmission between L. striatellus and the other 2 planthoppers.
Chromosomal‐level genomes of three rice planthoppers provide new insights into sex chromosome evolution
TLDR
The chromosome‐level genome assemblies of three planthopper species would provide a valuable resource for a broad range of future research in molecular ecology, and subsequently benefits development of modern pest control strategies.
De Novo Assembly and Analysis of the White-Backed Planthopper (Sogatella furcifera) Transcriptome
Abstract The white-backed planthopper Sogatella furcifera (Horváth) has become an important pest on rice in China and Southeast Asian countries. White-backed planthopper wing bud length is in
SMRT sequencing of the full-length transcriptome of the white-backed planthopper Sogatella furcifera
TLDR
This is the first study of the full-length transcriptome of the white-backed planthopper obtained using SMRT sequencing, and the acquired transcriptome data can facilitate further studies on the ecological and viral-host interactions of this agricultural pest.
Chromosome‐level genome assembly of the mirid predator Cyrtorhinus lividipennis Reuter (Hemiptera: Miridae), an important natural enemy in the rice ecosystem
TLDR
The whole genome of the mirid species Cyrtorhinus lividipennis Reuter (Hemiptera: Miridae) is sequenced and assembled to provide a genomic basis for better understanding this dominant predator and therefore promotes sustainable rice pest management and food grain production.
Genome sequence of the Chinese white wax scale insect Ericerus pela: the first draft genome for the Coccidae family of scale insects
TLDR
The first genome sequence from the Coccidae family is presented, which will help to increase the understanding of the evolution of unique features in scale insects, and provide important genetic information for further research.
The Entomopathogenic Fungus Metarhizium anisopliae Affects Feeding Preference of Sogatella furcifera and Its Potential Targets’ Identification
TLDR
The results suggested that major of DEGs are involved in energy metabolism, biosynthesis, immune response, the FoxO signaling pathway, the MAPK signaling pathway and apoptosis in response to the fungal infection.
A Comparative Analyses of the Complete Mitochondrial Genomes of Fungal Endosymbionts in Sogatella furcifera, White-Backed Planthoppers
TLDR
Obtaining complete mitogenome of five WBPH fungal endosymbionts, belonging to the Ophiocordycipitaceae family, from next-generation sequencing (NGS) reads obtained from S. furcifera samples can provide insights into their phylogenetic positions without needing to isolate the mtDNA from the host.
The Draft Genome of Yellow Stem Borer, an Agriculturally Important Pest, Provides Molecular Insights into Its Biology, Development and Specificity Towards Rice for Infestation
TLDR
Comparative genomic analysis revealed that YSB is unique in the way it has evolved, paves a way for biologists to design novel pest management strategies as well as for the industry to design new classes of safer and specific insecticide molecules.
A New Mitochondrial Genome of Sogatella furcifera (Horváth) (Hemiptera: Delphacidae) and Mitogenome-Wide Investigation on Polymorphisms
TLDR
A new complete mitochondrial genome of WBPH collected in the Korean peninsula using NGS technology is determined and suggested that Delphacinae seems to be monophyletic and Sogatella species including WBPH are clearly formed as one clade.

Genomes of the rice pest brown planthopper and its endosymbionts reveal complex complementary contributions for host adaptation
TLDR
This study reveals a series of complex adaptations of the brown planthopper involving a variety of biological processes, that result in its highly destructive impact on the exclusive host rice.
Southern rice black-streaked dwarf virus: A new proposed Fijivirus species in the family Reoviridae
TLDR
It is proposed that this dwarf disease observed on rice in southern China be considered as a new species, Southern rice black-streaked dwarf virus, in the group 2 of the genus Fijivirus in the family Reoviridae.

Proteomic and transcriptomic analyses of fecundity in the brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens (Stål).
TLDR
A combination of proteomic and transcriptomic analyses provided five candidate proteins and genes for further study that may lead to a more fundamental understanding of the fecundity of this important agricultural insect pest.
Identification and characterization of microRNAs in the white‐backed planthopper, Sogatella furcifera
TLDR
Comparison with miRNAs from 26 insect species and five other species in miRBase showed that more than half of the conserved miRNA families are highly conserved in Hexapoda, while other mi RNAs are only conservedin non‐dipterans.
Genetic variation among Asian populations of rice planthoppers, Nilaparvata lugens and Sogatella furcifera (Hemiptera: Delphacidae): mitochondrial DNA sequences
TLDR
Intraspecific variation in two species of delphacid planthoppers, Nilaparvata lugens and Sogatella furcifera Horvath, suggested that populations south of the Red River Valley in Vietnam experienced regular mixing and were distinct from populations to the north which contributed to yearly immigrations.
Rice planthopper problems and relevant causes in China
TLDR
The results indicated that the changes in cropping system and increase in susceptible hybrid varieties, fertilizers, pesticides, and temperature created vulnerable rice ecosystems, which increased initial populations and growth rates and resulted in high population sizes and frequency of outbreaks.
Identification of a pentanucleotide telomeric sequence, (TTAGG)n, in the silkworm Bombyx mori and in other insects.
TLDR
The Bombyx type of telomere sequence, (TTAGG)n, hybridized to DNAs from 8 of 11 orders of insect species tested but not to vertebrate DNAs, suggesting that this TTAGG repetitive sequence is conserved widely among insects.
Developmental regulation of glycolysis by 20-hydroxyecdysone and juvenile hormone in fat body tissues of the silkworm, Bombyx mori.
TLDR
It is concluded that 20E acts as a general blocker for glycolysis in the Bombyx fat body during molting and pupation, whereas the physiological role of JH is contrast with 20E during molts.
