  journal={Crop Breeding and Applied Biotechnology},
The main objective of the present study was to characterize the genetic structure of three Brazilian sweet corn populations. In addition, we aimed to investigate the molecular genetic diversity within and among the populations and evaluate the ability of RAPD and SSR markers to detect inter and intra-population variation in these populations. PCR were performed using 11 RAPD and six microsatellite primer pairs. Genetic similarity was estimated within and among populations considering the…

Tables from this paper

Genetic diversity in elite inbred lines of maize and its association with heterosis.

The results suggested that data from the extreme distances could be used in breeding for more productive crosses and heterotic hybrids, and molecular markers are efficient tools for predicting hybrid performance.

Genetic structure and diversity among sweet corn (su1-germplasm) progenies using SSR markers.

The analysis of genetic structure of su-1 progenies of sweet corn was important for the estimation of genetic distance or similarity among the progenied, and was especially important to identify the SSR loci with high and low levels of heterozygosity, to identifyThe progenie at S5 generation showing 100% of homozygous plants and progenying showing high heterozygulence.

Genetic variability in maize and teosinte populations estimated by microsatellites markers

Results indicated that 64,5% of the variation was detected within the populations, suggesting the possibility of obtaining genetic progress by selection within each population and the estimated genetic distance confirmed the genomic similarity of maize and teosinte.

Genetic diversity assessed by microsatellite markers in sweet corn cultivars

This study on genetic diversity will be useful for planning future studies on sweet corn genetic resources and can complement the breeding programs for this crop.

Analysing Solanum tuberosum L. Genetic Divergence using Molecular Marker Data

In the present study genetic diversity, marker attributes and population structure of 48 potato genotypes based on 20 SSR markers data were analysed which were able to successfully generate significant levels of DNA polymorphism to discriminate the experimental material.

Molecular characterization of tropical sweet corn inbred lines using microsatellite markers

High genetic variations among the inbreeding lines indicates the presence of different heterotic groups, while low level of genetic variability within the inbred lines indicates that they met the assumption of homozygosity of their loci to enable further diallel crosses to be made for analysis of their combining ability.

The Possibilities of the Prediction of Heterosis in Elite Lines of Onion Based on the Assessment of Genetic Diversity

The aim of this work was to determine the genetic diversity of elite lines of onion by using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) molecular marker and predict the future of hybrid performance

Genetic interrelationship among cowpea varieties elucidatedthrough morphometric, RAPD and SSR analyses

The genetic interrelationship among all the popular vegetable cowpea varieties cultivated in Kerala was investigated through morphometric, RAPD and SSR analyses and revealed maximum similarity between Vyjayanthi and Varun.

Molecular Evaluation of Garcinia kola Heckel Accessions Using RAPD Markers

The genetic relationships among twenty-five accessions of Garcinia kola using six Random Amplified Polymorphic (RAPD) primers were evaluated and clearly showed the level of molecular diversity in the accessions and the information provided could be utilized for genetic improvement and conservation of Garcia kola.

Use of RAPD and microsatellite (SSR) variation to assess genetic relationships among populations of tetraploid alfalfa, Medicago sativa

It was concluded that RAPD and microsatellites could be useful and powerful tools for assessing genetic variation and genetic relationships in tetraploid alfalfa.

Microsatellite and RAPD polymorphisms in Ontario corn hybrids are related to the commercial sources and maturity ratings

Random-amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and microsatellite markers were used to estimate the genetic relationships among 37 Ontario corn hybrids and showed that most of the hybrids from the same company were closely related to each other.

Quantitative evaluation of genetic diversity in wheat germplasm using molecular markers

The results show that the Argentine bread wheat germplasm has maintained a relatively constant level of genetic diversity during the last half century.

Genetic Diversity Determined within and among CIMMYT Maize Populations of Tropical, Subtropical, and Temperate Germplasm by SSR Markers

Principal coordinate analysis based on allele frequencies of the populations revealed that populations adapted to the same ME clustered together and, thus, supported clearly the ME structure.

Precision of genetic relationship estimates based on molecular markers

A statistical methodology using the width of a confidence interval was developed to determine the number of probes to be surveyed and the precision in the estimation of genetic distance between pairs of cultivars.

Detection of genetic variation between and within populations of Gliricidia sepium and G. maculata using RAPD markers

RAPDs provide a cost-effective method for the precise and routine evaluation of variability and may be used to identify areas of maximum diversity and are discussed in relation to the exploitation of multi-purpose tree species of the tropics.

Genetic Characterization of CIMMYT Inbred Maize Lines and Open Pollinated Populations Using Large Scale Fingerprinting Methods

Genetic diversity within each population was significantly higher than diversity between populations, indicating that the populations are heterogeneous at the molecular level and that CIMMYT breeders have successfully incorporated considerable genetic diversity into CIMmyT maize germplasm.

Genetic diversity and relationships detected by isozyme and RAPD analysis of crop and wild species of Amaranthus

A complementary approach using information from both isozymes and RAPDs was shown to generate more accurate estimates of genetic diversity, and of relationships within and among crop species and their wild relatives, than either data set alone.

Genetic diversity amongst Australian canola cultivars determined by randomly amplified polymorphic DNA
